Cramping in early pregnancy (4 weeks) - normal/

I am only 4 weeks pregnant, just got my BFP a few days ago - but have been having pretty constant mild cramps ever since 6 days past ovulation. I assumed they were implantation at first, they backed off a few days but now have returned? I had a sharp one in the night but it was only 1 and has not been accompanied by any bleeding/spotting.

Is this normal? I have no idea about pregnancy, complete first timer!

Hi Fishpond I'm a first timer at 4 weeks too so I can't really offer any advice but I wanted you to know that I've bene having cramps too. I had cramps over the weekend and some light brown spotting which lasted until Tuesday. The cramps haven't been very intense but definitely there. I actually thought AF was coming and took 2 neurofen which I really regret now - it wasn't until Monday when AF still hadn't appeared that I took the tests nad realised I was pg.

I've got a GP appointmnet booked for next Wednesday (first one I could get with my regular GP) and I'm planning to ask her about it then. From what I've read online though and in a pregnancy app I downloaded to my i-phone cramping/light spotting is normal and does not necessarily mena anything is wrong. I'm trying to kepe calm about it and not dwell on it too much. If you get and fresh blood spotting/bleeding that's more worrying.

It's going to be a very anxious wait to 12 weeks I think!

Hiya I'm now 15 + 5 weeks and between 3-6 weeks I had horrendous cramps. I have always had irregular periods and it was these cramps that made me take a test. They were roughly every 2 hours and would ease off slightly when I ate something small. They would wake me up at night and were so painful I'd just sit and cry Sad My GP referred me to the early pregnancy unit, who said because they ease with food it has nothing to do with pregnancy - perhaps they were hunger pains!! Angry after another week of no sleep and a few days off work I had an early scan as they said I could be having a miscarriage - I was 5 weeks and the sac was in place so I was told unless I bleed come back in 2 weeks, I had another week of cramps but no bleeding, and had another scan at 7 weeks which showed a heartbeat Grin by 7 weeks the cramps had gone. I had no reason given by medical staff for them, but after asking mumsnet and looking on the net it seems that the pains could have been my uterus stetching! Lots of people seem to have them but I would still get them checked out - especially if u are bleeding with them.

Hope things work out the same for you two as they did for me Grin congratulations on your pregnancies xxx

Hi hun im 7+5 and I had exactly the same just like strong period craps and read they are normal.

Hope they dont last much longer mine went a week or 2 ago xx

Afternoon ladies, I'm now 8+3 and I am still having the cramps, they used to happen at all times of day and night but now mostly happen when I get into bed at night?!? Very odd, although I've been assured by friends who have had children and the MW that it is totally normal, I haven't had any bleeding with them though. I would sugest going to see your GP or EPU if you are experiencing any bleeding. Hope that helps?xx

Hello justhayley dilkam and millyv thank you for your replies. It will be good to get reassurance from my GP but your comments are a big help. I'm so glad to be able to talk about this on MN, no one in RL knows yet (apart from DH) and I've got so many questions.

Fishpond · 10/11/2011 14:25

Thanks everyone this has been very reassuring! I live in the US and ad far as I'm aware our hospital doesn't have an EPU but I have an appt next week to confirm the pg and will ask about it then. Such an anxious time!

Congrats to all of you also! Xx
