Would really like some advice. I ovulated a week ago and over the last couple of days I have been getting period pain type cramps and today I have felt so sick all day, can barely eat. I know its too early to take a pregnancy test as I am not due on for another week, but i dont know if its too early to start feeling sick etc...I dont want to get my hopes up! Has anyone else known they were pregnant before a missed period? Any advice would be greatly recieved. Thanks!

No idea sorry.

I never had any symptom until about a week after my period was due and by then I had taken a test so knew.

I did often get cramps after ovulation, no sickness however, but was always a negative result so I don't think they always fall hand in hand.

I do have a friend that claims she 'knew' she was pregnant the day after her and husband had sex, but she is a bit batty so I tend to dis-regard her.

Don't get your hopes up but don't feel down either, you've done all you can and you just need to wait until testing day.

Hope it's a BFP for you!

I felt nauseous from the moment of conception, obviously, not making the connection til a few weeks later. Only felt sick when answering the telephone, though, which was odd, but challenging as my work is telephone based Grin

AllIWant85 · 07/11/2011 00:22

I would like to know this too. AF isn't due for another week but for the past week I've felt really weird and not myself. I've felt very nauseous on and off, lowered appetite (probably because I feel sick!), cramps which sometimes turn into stabbing like pains, change in bowel movements (sorry prob TMI), sore breasts and overly emotional. I never ever cry and in the last week I've cried because I put my socks on inside out and also cried when Google didn't have the answer to my question!

I really want to know as I'm driving myself mad!! Blush

I suppose scientifically it would be when the embryo actually implants, seeing as this point would be where your cycle diverts from the usual.

Anecdotally I have no idea. I did feel odd quite soon after when I conceived my daughter, went off booze for a start. I have no idea how pg I was when I did the test as she wasn't planned, but by that point I had terribly painful breasts and copious discharge Blush, the sickness hadn't yet been felt though.

I have some times felt pg symptoms though when not pg, when I conceived ds2, I was convinced I was pg, I had every symptom known to Womankind. Turned out though that I was having a mega long cycle and that was ovulation, I felt faint in a shop about 2 weeks later and decided to do a last ditch test (af hadn't arrived) and there he was, a lovely pink cross.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, but I wouldn't get despondent either, it's nearing the time you can test, be patient fgs Grin.

I knew I was pregnant within days of conception each time. In fact when I got pregnant with ds, it was after being told that dh had no sperm. I was so sure that I was pregnant that I took pregnancy test 2 weeks after conception and sure enough I was.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 07/11/2011 10:21

Hi all,

I started with sickness etc quite early on the earliest sign was going of coffee as it was the one thing I enjoyed in copious amounts and I was also very very tired.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 07/11/2011 11:07

I started feeling faint and sick literally a couple of days after DH and I had sex (and no I am not ScareLao's batty friend!!). Also felt really tired and run down. So I hoped I was pregnant but also thought I could just be coming down with something.

Same thing also happened to a work colleague of mine who felt sick straight away, sore boobs, metallic taste the lot. Told her not to get her hopes up but she turned out to be pregnant as well.

kiki22 · 07/11/2011 11:13

I knew about a week before my period was due something wasn't right felt sort of like i was going to get my period with sore boobs and light crampy feelings plus very emotional, but i sort of knew that it was more than just my period coming. Then again i know people who have been positive they are pg then turn out not to be so i wouldn't get your hopes up until you test.

There is a test you can do 5 days befor your missed period.

justlots · 07/11/2011 11:13

I got period type cramps within a few days of ovulating/conception. I think it was implanting that caused it. I was sure I was pregnant and it was a killer having to wait another week to test. First 2 tests were negative though, but I was so sure I kept testing til I got a positive one! Now 36 weeks!

user59457812 · 07/11/2011 11:42

I thought my nipples looked darker a day or so after my missed period, but I could have imagined this and I honestly dismissed it at the time. I did have some odd cramps around this time too, but only on the day my period would have been due. Didn't start feeling sick or tired until at least six weeks pg (so when my period was already two weeks late). Didn't actually twig I was pregnant and take a test until a bit after this and was having proper symptoms.

Really nothing before a couple of weeks after ovulation if I am being objective though. I have lot of sympathy for those (batty, ha ha) ladies who say they 'knew' immediately after conception as I remember how hard TTC was and would get my hopes up every month reading into every little thing during the TWW only to be disappointed. This time I went the opposite direction and told myself to stop being so daft, and turned out to be PG after all, so you really never know Grin

reastie · 07/11/2011 11:48

I started getting symptoms over a week before AF due. I think everyone thinks I'm making it up but I felt light headed, really tired, dizzy, and sicky - really quite strongly. I think some people are just either more sensitive to their body or more sensitive to hormones

TimothyClaypoleLover · 07/11/2011 11:59

HotPinkGingham - no sympathy needed here thanks. Was not desperately trying to conceive and getting hopes up, just more in tune with my body, I think with this being my second pregnancy. I kid you not, I had sickness and dizzy spells immediately after conception.

blueskydrinking · 07/11/2011 12:01

I've known for certain both times, roughly a week before period due (maybe a little less).

For me it's a strange glitch with my eyesight - slightly different each time but significant and at the same point in my cycle. No idea what that means - it's really odd. But I wasn't symptom watching this time round and spent 20 minutes suspecting everything from a detached retina to some sort of cancer before thinking, well we can't have another baby if........ ah.

vmcd28 · 07/11/2011 12:04

Been pg 4 times.
I KNEW I was pg 3 of them, well before period due. With ds2, I felt nauseous for 6 days before I got a bfp.

Good luck x

user59457812 · 07/11/2011 12:07

Timothy no offence intended whatever, what I meant was I did the same thing and thought I had symptoms from just after ov, but I was never right. I was desperately trying to conceive for 20 months, glad to hear you weren't. Perhaps sympathy is the wrong word - I mean I get it.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 07/11/2011 12:09

HoyPinkGingham, no offence taken at all, just wanted to say that not everyone who has symptoms straight after conception is getting their hopes up and feeling something that doesn't exist.

user59457812 · 07/11/2011 12:12

Timothy, sorry I didn't mean to imply that. Similar to your post I meant sometimes they are real symptoms (i.e. you are right about them and are tuned in) and sometimes they aren't (i.e. in my case I just wanted it so badly). Wasn't trying to kill anyone's hopes - in fact the opposite!

storminateacup10 · 07/11/2011 12:47

for me it was about 1/2 days after sex, when I had conceived. heaving nausea, headaches, stingy sensations in boobs etc. everyone's different though...

kiki22 · 07/11/2011 12:52

Can i just say about the getting your hopes up thing, i knew about a week befor hand even tho i had no intention of having a baby and we thought DP couldn't have children so it's not always your mind playing tricks because you want it (tho i'm sure sometimes it is)

reastie · 07/11/2011 13:00

Oh can I add to my symptoms over a week before that I also forgot words when I was talking, and couldn't spell suddenly - very random!

PamBeesly · 07/11/2011 13:00

Hi OP I was ttc for a few months and never knew I was pregnant until I did the test. However what was really strange was a week before my period was due I had a craving for white wine, cider, anything apple-y...I was never a big drinker when TTC so it was really out of the ordinary to feel this way, I just put it down to being pissed off with my period being en route again. So although there may be nothing specific, any changes to the ordinary should be looked at...when I think of the amount of white wine I drank, at least 4 bottles in that week I feel :(. The doctor told me not to worry in the slightest about my 'binge week'...I still feel guilty though!
Good luck

SacreLao · 07/11/2011 14:04

Timothy See your post makes more sense, symptoms a few days after and tested after 2 weeks.

My batty friend claimed she had morning sickness THE DAY AFTER, and got a positive test after a week. I didn't know her pre-DC so hard to believe this is true.

As others have said I TTC for 8 months and each time I had cramps, dizzyness etc. after ovulation the result was often negative.

I am sure some people get these symptoms and then a positive result but I am sure that many also get them and have a negative result.

The time that I actually got a positive test I almost didn't bother as I was so sure I was not pregnant, no symptoms at all and didn't feel any different. I was wrong and was indeed pregnant.

I am now 5 months gone and still have no symptoms however, whereas with my previous two children I was sick daily, so it all depends on the person and the pregnancy.

OhDoAdmit · 07/11/2011 14:08

I get symptoms very very early.

I usually start by falling asleep within a week of conception.

With my last DC I was freezing cold and had night sweats within two weeks.

I know it sounds daft but its true.

LauraM20 · 07/11/2011 15:05

Thanks for all your replies, sounds like it is possible but I will just wait and see what happens in a week or so, I could be letting my imagination run away with me because I want it so much! You have been a great help, fingers crossed!! X

Hi Laura - Im in the same position as you. AF due this weekend but desperately wanting to be pregnant so am looking for possible symptoms!
Have felt slightly sick on and off for about a week now though not sure if Im making making myself feel like that by obsessing so much??!!
Still have an appetite though and actually craving more sweet things (just an excuse?!)

Too early to test yet (though I am tempted?!) and have no other symptoms so just have to wait I guess...
Besides, even if and when I do test, Im not going to get my hopes up too much as I had a positive test 2 months ago but after a week I'd miscarried

:-(

Fingers and toes crossed this time though!! :-)
