Where to go for Chrismas holidays when pregnant?

Any ideas welcome. Our city gets depressive and deserted between 20th December and early January. We have no family and no close friends hear. It is probably our only opportunity to go somewhere in the nearest future....but everything is either impossible (ski) or expensive (winter sun) or often both...

A lovely cosy cottage in Yorkshire or the Peaks with a real fire and a pub that will serve xmas day. Perfect. Wish we could!

Aren't the Canary Island still supposed to be warm throughout the British winter? They're not that far, so probably wouldn't be that expensive. Not exactly a Christmassy place to go, but might be an option if you're after somewhere a bit warmer.
