Antenatal classes around Greenwich?

Hi all,

Sorry if this is the wrong area to post this, I am very new to the forum! I live in Greenwich (near Bexleyheath) and was wondering if anyone knew of any good antenatal classes in the area? I am from Australia and don't know many people in the area and would like to meet some other mums (and obviously learn what to do with the baby cos I don't havea clue!).

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, I'm Greenwich, have you looked at the Greenwich NCT classes? I met a brilliant group of mummy mates with DS who is now 26 months that I still meet up with regularly. The Greenwich NCT facebook page is worth following, they have lots of meet ups, bumps and babes, cinema nights etc etc. If you do a search for NCT Greenwich it comes straight up.

NCT classes are probably the most in-depth ones.
Lazy Daisy classes have started up in Greenwich too, I believe. More focussed on just birth (the NCT also cover a lot on caring for the baby post birth etc) but still probably a good way to meet people.

Don't panic too much if you don't meet lots of people in advance. I moved to Greenwich with a 7 week old so missed doing NCT or similar locally, but found I met plenty of people easily at post natal fitness classes, breastfeeding clinics etc.

edwinbear and pootlebug thanks so much for your suggestions. I will have a look at NCT classes. You have both made me feel a bit better about the fact there is a lot to do! So excited! Thanks again

One more question - when do people generally go on antenatal classes? How far into their pregnancies?

Hi alexa I think they recommend ensuring you've finished the course by the time you get to about 36 weeks, but if you look on the websites they should have advice. I was in Greenwich for me DS - have since moved back to NZ - but I had a great course at the West Greenwich community centre which is right by the train station, the teacher was an independent midwife called Tanya and I made a great group of friends. Try looking up community centres around you and see whether they list their schedules. You may also find things like antenatal yoga or aquanatal classes are good to meet people. The green baby shop in Greenwich has a good noticeboard with flyers for stuff like that. So does the pistachio cafe in manor park gardens. Google it if you're not sure where it is.

There are also some good baby music classes in the area which are great for meeting people - Boppin Bunnies is especially good, Toddlers World at The Arches Leisure Centre is brilliant once baby is mobile and they do free music sessions at West Greenwich library Tuesdays and Thursdays which are worth dropping in to.

LadyMaybe and edwinbear Thanks! I will have a look at the community centres and see what they offer. Also the baby classes sound really fun. Thanks so much

Please can you take 3 minutes to complete my survey for one of my final University courses. A Greenwich ward is the area within the borough of Greenwich which you live in.
