11 Weeks and a bleed

Hi ladies,

I'm in major need of some reassurance today. Spent a few hours in A&E last night after having a bleed. Completely fell apart and my boss (who i live with and is more like my mum) had to come home and peel me out from under the covers. I was convinced i had lost the baby, especially after having a MC with my last pregnancy.

I wasn't a massive bleed but it was bright red and there were two small dark red clots, the biggest being no bigger than my thumb nail. I'm nearly 11 weeks and the only hope i have is that a MC at this stage would be much bigger right?

The doctor said it's a good sign that it had stopped and i didn't have any abdominal pain. I had had very low pain the night before but i put it down to being gas because i've had major problems with constipation.

They've referred me to the early pregnancy unit and i have an emergency scan tomorrow morning.

There's small amounts of red when i wipe now but i'm hoping it's just the last of the one bleed not the start of another.

Does anyone have any experience of this or any advice? I'm off work today but all i can do it sit here in DPs bed and wait for him to come home. I'm gonna go mad till i know one way or another tomorrow.

Hi,

I had a small bleed last week after sleeping with the other half but was told everything was fine. (safe to say hes on a ban until babys here). I was terrified though so know slightly what your going through.

I woman i work with had a bleed at 8 weeks then again at 12 with no reason for it and she has just had a healthy baby boy 5 weeks ago.

I know its easy for me to say but try and relax i am sure everything will be fine.

I had a couple of biggish bleeds due to hematoma (sp?) DD is now 14 mo. It's terrifying when it happens, but apparently it's relatively common.

The fact that you have no abdominal pain is a good sign too. Take it easy and keep positive.

Hi queserasera,
Isn't this awful? I'm in a similar situation today. I'm 8 weeks and have had a bleed this morning. My last pregnancy also ended in miscarriage so I'm particularly on edge. I saw my mw today for booking in and as the bleeding had stopped while I was there she didn't seem too worried. All I can do is mope and cry.
Just know that you're not alone and I hope your scan brings good news. Good luck.

I have a similar thing. I had a bleed at 7 weeks, it seemed like old blood and lasted three days. The doctor sent me to the EPU and they said everything seemed ok. The bleed stopped that day but now I'm 11 weeks it's started again.

This time is the same, not a heavy bleed but more than a few spots and it's old blood. My 12-week scan is next Friday and I'm keeping absolutely everything crossed but it's so worrying. I find it hard to think of anything else.

My other worry is that I haven't really had any pregnancy symptoms apart from tiredness. Trying to stay positive but it's not easy.

Keeping fingers crossed for you mummylovesnancy and queserasera.

It is extremely worrying but a lot of us have some bleeding in pregnancy for various reasons. I had it with my first two pregnancies, DD1 is now nearly 6 and DD2 has just turned 4. Didn't have it with my 3rd pregnancy or this time round.

With DD1 it was at 11 weeks. Some red bleeding 2 afternoons in a row. I had a scan and the baby was fine and no cause for the bleeding was identified. My 20 weeks scan did show up a low lying placenta which moved for a natural delivery but if the placenta is low it is a bit more common to have a bleed but they couldn't say for sure. The bleeds were Sun and Mon and I was signed off work for the rest of the week and told to rest.

With DD2 I had red bleeding a 6 weeks, at the time all my GP could check was that my cervix was closed and say it was either an implantation bleed or the start of a miscarriage but the cervix being closed was a good sign. Again rested for a few days or as much as I could with a toddler and it stopped again. Then just before 12 weeks I had more bleeding. This time a blood clot was identified outside the sac the baby was in. Based on the size of the clot they estimated I would bleed for 2 weeks as it broke down and they were right. With 2 kids under 4 and in the middle of moving house there wasn't much resting done just a lot of keeping fingers crossed.

Due to my experiences I have read a bit into it and read stories of ladies with blood flowing down their legs but the babies still being fine. It is such a worrying time and makes you scared to go to the loo or to sneeze but in a lot of cases it all works out fine in the end. Good luck.

Really pleased for you!

Yay! Same thing happened to me at 12 weeks and convinced myself the clots were the baby. The doc said 'it's not common but it is something we see very regularly' and said you often get a bleed like that when your period would have been due. Am now at 37 weeks and fingers crossed for a healthy baby soon.

All the best to you and your baby.
