Holidays during pregnancy

I have recently found out I'm pregnant (whoop whoop Grin Grin) I am thinking ahead and wondering when people have found the best time to holiday is.

I'm 5+6 and other than tired feel fine (early days, I know!). EDD 29th June. It would be nice to get away with my DH before our lives change completely.

So - when would you think is the best time during your pregnancy to plan a break? I know it varies from pregnancy to pregnancy.

Thanks.

Depends where you're going! But I think after 20wk scan is the best time, you're starting to "glow" then, and before 30wks when you start to feel uncomfortable.

Don't forget to check airlines policy, as you may need a fit to fly letter from the doc. Also, you'll feel hot anyway so I wouldn't go anywhere too hot.

Very jealous!

I went away the day after my 20 week scan and had a fab time - my doctor even said it was the safest time to go. Just don't book anywhere too hot - i went to Albania in August and was very glad when we left the capital and went to the northerly coast! Oh and do pack maternity / loose clothing my bump really popped when i was out there!

We went to Australia for 5 weeks when I was 24 weeks pregnant - I had an amazing time and loved it. Not too big to be uncomfortable on the plane but big enough to look pregnant (which got us upgraded :o )

If all goes well I am due on 19 June. We have booked to go away to the Caribbean when I will be 20-21 weeks. It seems to be best time to go and I am really looking forward to it. Gives me something else to focus on apart from worrying about the baby!

Somewhere between 22-28 weeks would be best IMO.

I spent weeks 6-19 throwing up and being exhausted, glowed throughout the mid-twenties and now at 33 weeks don't want to move off sofa far less get on a plane!

A bit after 20-week scan, ideally, but in my first pregnancy I went at 19 weeks to southern France and it was wonderful.
Admittedly the original plan of long hikes and camping most nights was ditched first in favour of shorter hikes and half the nights in B+Bs, and then shortly before we went in favour of not much walking and all the nights in hotels/B+Bs and being driven around the scenery... which did mean could leave the tent behind!

Eurostar was exceptionally civilised.
I also had a short break in the UK at 38 weeks which was fun but a lot of preparation (nearest maternity unit programmed in the satnav, etc!), and wouldn't recommend it unless there was something that happened to be at that time that you really want to go to (main drawback was over 100 people going 'wouldn't it be funny/cool if you went into labour?!'...)

Excellent, thank you. There seems to be general theme here!

That gives me mid-Feb....sounds like saving up for a week in the Caribbean would be perfect. Although it is tempting to save all money for the baby, I think the last holiday and memories would be worthwhile.
