Hey, I had a blood test on fri night as I had been having sharp pains on my lower left side and scan showed nothin. Got results tonight and they were 1975?!!! doc said it was high so took another to make sure it was doubling and rule out ectopic. So at 4 wks and 6 daysit had doubled (didn't tell me exact result). An external and internals scan showed a sac and I've to go back in 8 days to check again,

Is this the norm?? I would have thought the higher the result, the higher likelihood of multiples?? Tbh I'm just really glad that every thing seems to be ok and in the right place!!

Any advice would be greets tho. :)

If you google "hcg levels chart" you'll get a range of places to look - according to this one, at 5 weeks LMP you can expect a range of between 18 and 7,340.

It does seem to be that a very high HCG level is more likely to be the result of a multiple pregnancy - but the range that is considered "normal" is so large that high HCG in and of itself is not considered to be a good predictor of the number of babies.

congrats on your pregnancy, and fingers crossed everything calms down a bit for you now :)

The range is so wide, it's not likely you can guess at it being multiples.
My sister has twins & her levels were average, nothing would have indicated twins.
1975 aren't high & wouldn't make me suspect twins.
Seeing just a sac is also normal & by the time you go back next time you should see your little baby.
