Ok my last AF was 5th Nov so in theory i should be 8 weeks pg on Saturday.

I had terrible pain early last week so had a early scan last Wed and had a repeat today. They are dating me at 6 weeks (seen heartbeat today)

So...how can i be almost 2 weeks out from my last period? I didnt get a positive result till my period was 4 days late, but how can there be 2 weeks difference?

Sorry if i have confused you all pmsl but hopefully someone will have understood my rambling

Also what the hell is a yolk sac? does that end up being the placenta? i am SO thick i know lol.You wouldnt think this is my 2nd!!

Thanks for reading, if you have got this far

Pucca - It depends when in your cycle you ovulated and conceived! A pregnancy is actually 38wks from the date of conception..... and since that is commonly 2weeks after your last AF started then they say the pregnancy is 40wks from your last menstrual period.... HOWEVER.... if you didn't conceive until day 25 of your cycle... your dates would immediately be nearly 2 wks out. So don't worry about it!!

The yolk sac full of nourishment for the baby until the placenta is formed and functioning at around 10-12wks..... so no it doesn't turn into the placenta. It disappears and the placenta takes over. HTH.

Congrats BTW!!

Sackache...pmsl i can't believe you understood me and my ramble

Thanks, my head has been haggled by it since coming back from the scan, not worried about it but just didnt understand it one bit.I am quite clever with something's and so completely stupid with others pmsl.

Thanks for reply

Agree with SackAche. I was about 2 weeks out as well at my early scan (measured 5.5 weeks when should have been 7.5 weeks according to LMP).

pucca would you have any idea when in your cycle you conceived?

SackAche · 29/12/2005 11:20

Its so sad..... I remember the exact night dd was conceived!!!

pucca · 29/12/2005 11:20

I know my last period was 5th nov, but for me to only be 6 week i would have had to concieve on about 30th nov, my next period (the one i missed) was 2nd dec...

I am confused again now lol, surely i couldnt have concieved only 3 days before next period due?

I know i did a cheap ov test on about cd 19, and i thought i was ov-ing then so bd and ended up pg, but then sperm can live for 5 days and eggs for 2? so i guess that would make sense.

OP posts:
DoesntChristmasDragOn · 29/12/2005 11:23

You could if you ovulated late and then the sperm didn't meet the egg until late too.

SackAche · 29/12/2005 11:23

You could have!! That would explain why you didn't get a +ve until you were 4 days late!

AND remember these scans aren't to an exact day. So you could have conceived on the 27th for example...... only you know when you...ahem.... did the deed!

pucca · 29/12/2005 11:25

It must have been that bd, as we didnt have any more after that..in that month iykwim (sorry for tmi lol)

So, if they are saying i am 6 weeks, then conception must have happened 4 weeks ago, is that right?

pucca congratulations!
may I make a suggestion? if you have these questions in the hospital then you could try to ask them. not that you can;t ask them here too, but I think it is really helpful for health care professionals to explain things to their customers and to be told if they are not making any sense IYSWIM... It is really good practice for them to be questioned (in a friendly way of course) and for them to remember that it is part of their job to make sure you understand.
you are NOT being thick, you just need it explaining properly.
sorry just a hobby horse of mine...

pucca · 29/12/2005 11:26

Pmsl, sorry. See i am doing all your head's in now, how odd though.

I'm getting confused too lol - I didn't know the date of my last AF but i did know the date of the 'deed'!! Got a few funny looks from the doc and midwife lol

My date was worked out by going back 2 weeks from the date of conception as that is the most likely time to conceive and then count the weeks from the supposed first day of my last period.

Maybe the dates will add up again at a later scan once it's a bit bigger?

pucca · 29/12/2005 11:29

God, you all have the patience of saints pmsl, thanks for explaining. I do have my dating scan booked for 1st Feb, so should find out for sure then.

Thanks again everyone

I should have asked while i was there, but was just so pleased everything was fine after seeing heartbeat etc, not sure when i will see mw but will ask her when i get the chance, it was just my curiosity.

Zephyr - your way is probably more accurate because you are going from the actual date of conception rather than a date 2 weeks after your last period which may or may not have coincided with conception. I'm sad like sachache - I know that my DD was conceived on Bank Holiday Monday at about 8 pm and was born on the Saturday morning nearly 38 weeks later. Because the Monday was the 16th day of my cycle my due date was classed as Sunday 16 May, (rather than the Monday) and DD was born on the 15th.
