Anyone else been going thru latent labour as I have, with just about every sign of imminent full-blown labour for weeks?!! (Am 37+4.) Can't stand the thought I could have another 3wks'ish of this! :(

This is really interesting as I am going through the same. This is my third baby and I am fed up with being teased. Had an appointment with the Doc on Monday who said that I am beginning to dilate so it could be any day or it could still be two weeks or longer ( I am 38 weeks today). Especially frustrated as have been assured that this will be another big baby so have the feeling that he is definitely fully cooked, but doesn't seem to want to come out yet. I am trying desperately to ignore all the BH even when they are regular, but the truth is, I feel like I am on red alert all of the time and totally tuned in to every little twinge. am hoping that this means that when the time
( eventually) does come, the ride will be smoother...but you never know.

Good luck to all of you. The waiting will soon be done and forgotten when the babies do decide to show up. Meantime, try to enjoy what peace and sleeo you canWink

I mean sleep!

twogirls1more · 02/11/2011 09:35

I sooo empathise libranlady and from one libran lady to another, I hope you don't have too long to wait! I'm now 38+1 and the BH's just seem to be getting stronger and stronger but not progressing past a couple of hrs! They're lasting over a minute and spreading down uterus ending with a lot of pain v low, (which I can only assume is my cervix thinning and/or dilating?) After bouts of these strong ones I go to loo and have a bit more show so sure it's doing something!
Had MW appt Mon and she was worried that baby was now transverse and back to back so sent me for an urgent scan. He was back to back :( but not transverse. (I could've told her that as I still have alot of pressure v low and to be honest you can tell he's lying long cos of the shape of my bump!!) Had both her AND another MW examine me and neither of them knew so went to hosp only to be examined twice, (by MW and consultant,) who both immediately could tell that he was still head down!!?..(what a waste of time that was!)
Was told by consultant that although you would assume the more kids you have, the easier the onset of active labour would be to identify, it's often the other way round as it's common for latent labour to get longer and more confusing each pregnancy!..No shit!!
Not best pleased, considering my symptoms and fact baby back to back..(now have back ache which isn't helped by lifting my toddler!) that MW gonna leave me now til 40wks before even seeing me again and then won't examine me or give me a sweep til 41wks! Happy days! x

Baby sleep arrived this morning. Just over 5 hours from first contraction this morning. Easy peasy. or have i already forgotten?

lollystix · 02/11/2011 23:11

If it's any consolation I had this all the start of the month with my fourth. I popped at 38+3 and was quick once we properly got going. He was my first early one and he's 3 weeks now. It's just a total pain in the arse really isn't it. Every night I would wonder where it would all go and then I'd go to bed and it would stop.

libranlady · 03/11/2011 07:03

Sleepevader, congratulations. Sounds like a fantastic labour in the end. Got any details for us? And what did you have? Enjoy the first few fabulous days.

twogirls1more · 03/11/2011 07:38

Ahha! Nature has a very clever way of helping you forget sleepevader! lol :) (That's why I'm now on no.4!) Many many congrats on your new arrival!! Glad you had an ok time of it in the end! :) Yes, any details for us?! (boy/girl etc?) Enjoy the special few weeks as it goes way too fast as we all know!
That makes me feel a lot better thanku lollystix! I did have all this with my 3rd last time, (though not quite as many "signs!"), didn't trust when I was really in labour and ended up arriving at hosp at 9cms! Wouldn't worry about popping early at all if wasn't getting these pains etc every day. Ahh well, will try and bank some hrs of rest where I can before my turn! :) x

Hi posting from hospital bed as my little girl cuddles in after a peaceful night. I didnt sleep a wink of course. She weighed 8lb 6oz was slightly back to back and came out in the pool with her ear pointing up. Ouch.

My latent phase prob would have progressed sooner had she been in a better position. I was 6cm on arrival and so disheartened as the morning before was 4cm and the week before 3cm!

however it all pails into insignificant now my gorgeous girl is here. Her siblings adore her-My partner has 2 from previous marriage and i have a son from previous relationship. I am blessed to have her.

brianmayshair · 03/11/2011 08:30

Congratulations sleep glad it went well, what did you have?

Well last night i was having really regular strong bh with lower back pain very manageable except that i have been told to go to triage at the first sign of labour because of babies breech position. Told DH he said 'i don't think your in labour, i'll know when your in labour, go to sleep' Hmm Grin can you tell he has been here before? Had really good sleep, slept all night and nothing this am. It is so annoying. Dh is away for the weekend this weekend so would like no signs from now until Monday or i'm going to start stressing about him being away.

brianmayshair · 03/11/2011 08:33

X posts sleep, that's lovely. Enjoy that lovely time with her.

I think your right about position, ds was back to back and i had a long latent stage with him once he turned during labour it all went very quickly.

Two girls you need to get on all fours and see if you can get that baby to turn, i think they say an hour a day will do it.

tinky19 · 03/11/2011 08:41

Congratulations sleep

twogirls1more · 03/11/2011 09:53

Aww, lovely to hear the news on your little girl sleepevader! Think you definately have a good point on the position of baby affecting the latent phase! :( Think in my case baby's spinning on his head all the time! Hmm (may be considering entering him into "Britains Got Talent" in a few years, breakdancing?! Grin Spent ages leaning forward, on birthing ball and on 4's yesterday and sure he turned back facing out, only to turn again once I got into bed and spent a while leaning back as could feel kicking/flexing at the front!! Confused!
Do hope you are left alone and free of twinges this wkend then brianmayhair! Know exactly how you feel! My DH works a 2hr drive away frm home 4 days a wk and this wk and nxt is able to do 2 days a wk wrking frm home instead of just the one. (Just know things will eventually happen while he's out at work and he'll get stuck on the M25 getting back!) :(
Any of you any ideas on how I could get a MW to examine me sometime soon to see if any of the discomfort I've been thru the last few wks (particularly last 10 days!) has been doing anything?! She's not offered to do internal and hate not knowing! Has just said nxt appt at 40wks then she'll only do sweep at 41wks! :(

maybe check out my website? You may find acupuncture helps?

twogirls1more · 03/11/2011 10:54

Thanks for that shelleybean! I've looked at your website.. v interesting! You're too far frm me unfortunately but have a quick q for you.. How does acupuncture work in encouraging a baby in utero to turn frm the back to back position, or were you just thinking about relaxation? Never had it and a bit confused as to how it works! Thanks again :)

Have you tried sex - it has induced 3 of my 4. Contractions totally random with ds4. Forced dh to have sex and within half an hour they were every 5 mins. Not pleasant but works. Is he engaged at all or just free floating?

Congrats SleepWink

twogirls1more · 03/11/2011 12:17

It may come to that lollystix! So mahoosive and uncomfy tho!..(and that's me not DH if u wondered!) Baby boy was v engaged about 3wks ago.. (just 1/5th palpable,) then on Mon this wk he was 3/5ths palpable so just engaged. :(

OP posts:
lollystix · 03/11/2011 19:33

If he's engaged will mw not give you a sweep at bang on 40 weeks? Mine did with ds3 cos of the 2 weeks of latent labour I'd been having. She said I was 3cm when she did it.

twogirls1more · 03/11/2011 21:39

I can only ask I guess! I think she should to be honest. I had an early sweep last pregnancy as they thought my DD was particularly big. I'm measuring ahead of dates too this time and bump is huge, so that along with all my long latent labour symptoms, hopefully she'll oblige! I also know I conceived particularly early in my cycle this time round so really would rather not go over by too long!

brianmayshair · 05/11/2011 10:45

how's every e else coming along? I went crazy yesterday and cleaned scrubbed the house from top to bottom could hardly walk with SPD last night. still having strong twinges that give me back pain at the same time woke me up in the night and was up for an hour. Have completely lost appetite and thrown up a couple of times. Going to stay with my ILs today as my dh is off out Hmm. Last time my waters broke when it was just me and FIL BlushBlush so could do without repeating that, still have 25 days to go.

twogirls1more · 05/11/2011 16:19

Well I'm still waiting! Had a relatively quiet few days though, contraction-wise and wonder if due to a change in baby's position? Has been a nice break to be honest and allowed me to think of something else for more than just 5mins at a time! Still rocking a bit on all fours and went swimming today which I'm sure turned baby, (though whether he'll stay that way is anyones guess as sure he keeps turning!)
I now have 10 days til due date and lots of friends and family making guesses as to when he'll decide to put in an appearance! (Wondering whether he's holding out for the 9th, which is the anniversary of when DH and I met? Or of course there's always 11/11/11?!)
Hope you don't get too many serious twinges while Hubby away this wkend brianmayshair! That way you should be able to relax a bit! (Hope MIL runs around after you and you get a few meals cooked!) :)

brianmayshair · 06/11/2011 16:08

That's good two glad it has slowed a bit you'll get more rest. I agree about position i think sometimes my baby gets in a position that feels similar or causes more bH. I have a scan tues am to see if baby has turned so fingers crossed, something is engaged in my pelvis just hoping it's head not bum because it feels pretty lodged in there.

DH has returned looking rough but pretending to be on top of the world he has taken the kids to the park so i can rest and MIL spoiled me with breakfast in bed this am so was almost worth it. He'll be sorry if i have the baby tonight as he looks like he is counting down the mins to bedtime Grin

twogirls1more · 06/11/2011 19:40

Glad you've had a fairly restful wkend! Lol re DH, that's funny! (Would be kinda funny in a way if it did happen tonight wouldn't it!?) I'm watching the size of my DH's whiskey nightcap's now! :) Every nt he says "How likely do you think it is that tonight will be the night?!" to which I reply.. "had lots of twinges so probably v likely!." ..lol, aren't I naughty! Grin so he says "well I'd better not have another then, just incase!" :)
Hope baby's head is engaged properly for you now! I definately think there's something in how the baby's laying as to how many painful BH's you get in the lead up. :( Glad I've had a bit of uterine peace over the last wk :) though today think he's v low again as lots of aches and niggles! (nearly a wk away frm due date now though :))
