Breathlessness and palpitations

I'm 27 weeks' pregnant and for the last few weeks have been increasingly breathless.

I thought initially that it was just getting more puffed out while walking/stair climbing etc but it seems now to be graduating to random attacks of breathlessness - like just now, sitting and MNing at the computer, I found myself heavy breathing.

The worst was the night before last when I was woken up four or five times from deep sleep, completely out of breath (like I'd been running) and my heart racing. It was quite scary actually.

Has this happened to anyone else? Am just trying to work out whether it is normal run-of-the-mill pregnancy fun, or something I need to see my doctor about.

Sounds a bit more than normal pregnancy breathlessness. Have you had bloods done for anaemia recently? If i was you would call midwife/GP.

Hope you feel better soon!

Go see go to be sure, I got like this and it was anaemia. Iron tabs sorted it out, but best to get a full check up, BP, urine etc as well.

Thanks ladies. My midwife took blood last time I saw her, so I should have an iron-level result waiting for me.

But I happened to mention then that I was getting really tired and she gave me a prescription for Spatone which I haven't cashed in yet. Think I will now!

I've had this with this pregnancy since about 25 wks (now 35wks). I have got anaemia and so am taking lots of extra iron. Although interestingly I've also just been diagnosed with polyhydramnios (which is basically excess amniotic fluid) and a side effect is also breathlessness.

I do sympathise, this is dc3 and I've never had breathlessness before and it's horrible. Like you I can get out of breath just sitting on the sofa Confused
