I have a GTT tomorrow , can someone tell me whats involved? am i allowed breakfast before i go or just water? I have read on wikipedia that some tests mean you drink some glucose then have to wait 2 hours for the test. Is that your experience? just wondering how long im going to be at the hospital.

I have to have one too as my mum is diabetic, my midwife told me no food for 12 hours before the test. Hope this helps. Good luck x

A 2 hour wait wasn't in my plans for tomorrow but thanks for letting me know.

Off to make some toast

Tests may vary - mine only took just over an hour, and you couldn't eat or drink (except small amount of water) from 10pm. They wouldn't even let me have sugar free gum! It wasn't too harsh though. At the end they give you a voucher for tea and toast at the canteen so you eat something immediately.

Hope yours is OK.

I had this and had to fast from 10pm the night before. Had bloods taken after drinking the glucose drink (tasted really nice!) then had to wait 2 hours before having bloods done again. Was fine.

I had one last wednesday, couldn't eat anything from 10pm tuesday night.
I got there at half 8, they do a blood test, give you the glucose drink (mine tasted like lime cordial), then send you away for 2 hours. When i went back they give me another blood test and sent me on my way.
Went for a nice big breakfast afterwards Grin

Hi - hospital gave me a sheet which said only water from 10pm night before test (as test at 9am). Then have blood test when arrive, glucose drink after that and 2 hour wait before next blood test.

Am planning on taking food and drink with me for when it is all over Grin, hope it goes ok.
