Naval piercing - desperate for help please!!!

Hi all,

I put in a pregnancy bar when I was about 5 months pregnant, by which time my piercing was beginning to look red and inflamed. Since then (I'm 36 weeks so for a long time) it has been constantly painful and gets repeated infections.

Every night I've gently cleaned it with salt solution. It's now become scabby as well as pussy (sorry Blush ) and the skin in the middle is clearly disintergrating.

Today I've removed my piercing but the wound looks as though the thinnest part of the skin is dying and I'm terrified it'll fall out leaving me permanently disfigured.

Is there anything I can do to save it? I was going to give it a clean with salt solution again to get rid of the scabbing but should I just leave it alone? Should I gently rub oil into the thinnest part of the skin? If it does fall out is there anything I can do to minimise the disfigurement?

Please, please help - I'm feeling really desperate and can't get to see the tatooist till tomorrow...

Yes to GP not tattooist.

Sounds to me like your body was rejecting the peircing anyway, pregnant or not this can happen.
Get the GP to have a look and check for infection, then I'd use Bio-oil on the area to reduce scarring.

Speak to the tattooist to see if he can give you a different bar but to be honest it sounds like theres no hope for it :(

I'd deff get to the doctors asap and ask for antibiotics. I'd also use savlon and Bio Oil to try and keep the scaring down. I've been using Bio Oil from the star and my piercing scars look all red n horrible dread to think how they'd look without using anything! If you can save it now they might be able to repierce it for you after your done having babies. good luck.

My naval piercing rejected in exactly the way you describe. There's no way of stopping it I'm afraid, the best thing you can do is take the bar out and keep it clean. Try not to panic, mine actually fell out (broke through all the skin) and while I have a small Mark where the piercing way, it certainly isn't huge or ugly. Once it's stopped scabbing and oozing, use bio oil or cocoa butter to stop it from scarring too much.
You can always have it re pierced when it's completely healed, which I did. This covered the small scar and it didn't reject again (can't guarantee this though). I don't have it in anymore, haven't for a couple of years, and honestly am not disfigured. Good luck Smile

Hi all, thanks for your replies. I'm hoping not to have to bother the GP with it as there doesn't seem to be any active infection and I think the damage has been done. All I need to do now is try to minimise the impact and cross my fingers that the skin doesn't fall away...

Gingersnap88 - thank you so much for that, it makes me feel loads better and will definitely help me sleep tonight!

I'll pop some Bio-Oil on and see how I go. What do you think - twice a day?

Gosh, seeing this thread title next to some of the sadder ones today has also helped put things into perspective Sad

Thanks for your help.
