at 9 weeks we've just been told there is no longer a heartbeat. It was there at 7 weeks and now it's gone. really worried about what happens next as nothing is happening - any advice/experience appreciated.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you - I was there myself end of march/beginning apil only mine was discovered at 16 weeks with the baby having passed about two weeks before.

Did the dr's not tell you your options (or at least give you leaflets to read to help you make your decision?)

They are generally:

  • Wait and see/wait for your body to recognise what has happened and to miscary naturally.
  • Manage medically: Take pills to cause contractions so that you pass the baby quicker.
  • Manage surgically: Have an ERPC under general anesthetic.

There are pros and cons to each route and it's really up to you how you want to proceed (although with the wait and see option, they will monitor you to make sure infection isn't setting in).

Perhaps the pregnancy loss boads would be of support to you at this time? I found them immensely helpful in my darkest hours. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/miscarriage

Take care

So sorry that you are going through this.

Please do go to the miscarriage threads there are loads of folks there who have been through what you are going through and have a wealth of information and support to offer.

A missed miscarriage can be managed normally in one of three ways: natural waiting, medication to induce the miscarriage, or surgery (ERPC). There are pro's and con's to each of the methods, and you need to find out about these in order to make your decision as to what would be best for you.
Be kind to yourself as you go through this difficult time.

x-post with previous poster!

Thank you so much that's way more information than my GP gave me! I've just found the miscarriage boards. Sadly I'm not alone but very grateful for the understanding x

Wait... your GP couldn't find a heartbeat? Was this with a Doppler or on a scan??? Sorry if I've misunderstood your post but I don't think HB would be detected with a Doppler at 9 wks so unless picked up with a scan, would be pretty unreliable?

If it was a scan then I'm so sorry for your loss Sad
