First time..... text !!!

I was way too scared!

Pinotmum · 23/12/2005 12:16

The first time I was nervous as they didn't even know I had a boyfriend. I had to tell my Mum to stop talking so I could get it out as I was bursting to get it over and done with. She was delighted though a little shocked. I was in my 30's so I was "old enough" LOL. The 2nd time I was married so it wasn't such a shock for them

aprilgirl · 23/12/2005 12:16

by phone first time and third time, cant remember 2nd time for some reason.

we sent dps mum a card saying happy birthday grandma, she rang to tell him off for being sarcastic and he said it wasnt, she was going to be a granny. then she had to hang up while she found her angina pills, she was so excited!

if you know they will be pleased, why not wait til xmas day? that would be very memorable. do you have a scan piccie you could put in a card? failing that just hand them a card 'from their unborn grandchild'

congratulations and good luck

Frostythesurfmum · 23/12/2005 12:18

I was feeling sooooo tired and had to dip out of going out somewhere with them, so thought we had better explain. No need - my mum knew already! She could just tell apparently.

aprilgirl · 23/12/2005 12:19

I was in the army at the time. I had a termination when I was 18 due to pressure and it sent me into bad depression. So when I found out I was preggers the next time I called my parents from camp and the first thing I said was said "I don't care what anyone says I'm keeping this baby" and thats how they knew obviously. After my assertive outburst my dad turned around and said well congratualtions love and that was it

jinglinggoblin · 23/12/2005 12:21

never mind, you cant leave it then. will you be seeing them xmas day? call and ask them to get you something non alcoholic to drink as you will be off the booze for 9 months

vitomum · 23/12/2005 12:23

i was nervous too. was worried about their reaction because i was not married (gasp!) although i was 33 and living with DP. My dad ended up crying - with joy!! utterly the last thing i'd expected. I am sure they will be delighted.

mumfor1sttime · 23/12/2005 12:24

I told my Mum and Dad at a retirement party for a relative. We were 'going to wait until 3 months gone' but we were so excited that we were giggling like school children !(Im 28, dh is 29)

I said 'Oh yes, guess what Im Pregnant!' I think they had already guessed though by the way we were acting!

Pinotmum · 23/12/2005 12:25

My dad did have a bit of a crisis saying the father would leave me etc as we hadn't known each other long. However I had my own falt and a good job so it wouldn't have been the end of the world. As it turns out we're still together.

bsg · 23/12/2005 12:25

With ds I told my sister and then told her to tell my mum.Wasn't sure what they would say as dh and I hadn't been together long. With dd I told them but again a bit scared as ds was only 4 months old.

With my MIL on the first occasion, it was really sweet. She is quite religious and had told me quite a few months before we were even trying that she had been 'praying for babies' !! Anyway - we went round for lunch when I was 10 weeks pregnant and whilst dishing out the roast potatos, I said 'you know you've been praying for babies.....well....we're going to have one!'

She burst into tears and was completely overwhelmed! Second time around, we just told her over the phone.

Got pregnant at 17 and after bookingin appointment, I went up to see my mum. After a big long conversation about random stuff I said " Mum, theres something I gotta tell you..." and burst into tears. Mum said quickly" Are you keeping it?" I nodded and she said " Actually me and your dad thought you might have been pregnant when we were away on last holiday" (I was 14 then and hadnt even dated anyone!) Gee, thanks mum, lol! Anyway, she had suspected I was preggers cause I was avoiding her the last week and normally saw her every other night! She told my dad.

podkin · 23/12/2005 12:57

First time we sent an email of the scan and said 'thought you might like to see this...' apparently my dad just sat and stared at the screen for ages - didn't know what it was and then thought it was a joke.
second time, I sent a text (my mum is a big fan of texting). Of course, she 'knew' I was pregnant anyway (I think she just imagines I am pregnant all the time)

munz · 23/12/2005 13:12

I rang and said i'd done a test, she said and I said it was pos - how the bloody hell can it be pos we've only BD 3 times and she told me " it only takes once u know" followed by keep calm book an apt wihtt he dr and see what he say's as i'd just had an early m/c the cycle b4. Dr confirmed it and she was then over the moon!

MrsDoesChristmas · 23/12/2005 13:18

My usually clockwork period was late. We were going on a big family holiday to Portugal. Dh kept dropping big fat hints about there being two of me so as you can imagine questions were being asked.
I was frog marched to the nearest chemist as soon as we got home and it was positive. We drove to my parenst the following weekend to tell them. They were delighted but hardly surprised.
Second time I told them over the phone.
