40/40 growth scan

Hi,
Got sent for a growth scan by a slightly over-anxious midwife! Had scan today at 40+2.

Has anyone else had a growth scan at this late stage. How accurate did the estimated fetal weight turn out to be? I'm hoping I won't be waiting long to find out but wanted to hear people's experiences, as this baby is certainly bigger than I was expecting (contrary to the midwife's worries)!

Thanks.

Did they not give you the results there and then?

The margins for error are 25%

Certainly in my case at 40 weeks they thought ds was 6lb. He was 8lb4Grin

Sorry it wasn't clear...they did indeed give the result - well over 8lb!! Am only a petite little thing and DH too, so was a bit of a shock that would be so big! Was expecting a good 7lber...am all bump and been bang on average at 22wk scan. Thus was wondering how accurate the fetal weight estimates are at this late stage.

Thanks.

My sister was told by her doctor that many times the weight of the baby can be miscalculated if the person doing the scan only takes the tummy circumference as a guide and that a much more accurate way to find out the weight is to use the femur length to calculate it.
Also, he told her that the baby's weight is usual in between the two parent's birth weight, I'm really hoping for that as my DH was just 6.4 pounds and I was 7,3.
