I know this will sound silly but..........i was reading in my pregnancy book the other day that a term belly should be 100 cms ......I am only 33 weeks and not particularly big i ould not say but i am tall 5 foot 7 . I hoiked myself out of bed and grabbed my paper ikea tape measure only to discover i was already 97- 98!!!!!!!!!!! Horrified i need to know if anyone else has done this or if any middies out there can shed some light on situation!

errrr.....not a midwife but surely it depends on lots of factors, not least your height.. Most important is that it increases regularly, i think. Can anyone else clarify?

colditz · 22/12/2005 22:44

Is it an old book? Or does it mean the minimum a term belly should measure?

I dont know if this helps but my consultant always measures from the top of my uterus to the pelvic bone and I heard her say to a student that every cm should equal a week of pregnancy.

Never heard the girth one before but that must surely depend on how big you were to begin with???

Tiny belly with dd- 7lb 11oz
Huge belly with ds- 9lb 10oz

In my view i wouldnt worry about it-might be a whopper though-that was the nick name of ds,he looked 3 months old when he was born!

Good luck and Happy Christmas

yes, is that measurement factoring in any cms for cake?

also i seem to remember a kind of redistribution of girthage when the baby "dropped" around 37 weeks, i'm sure i looked bigger before then and smaller after

Chuffingoodtime · 23/12/2005 00:59

I have 3wks to go and measure 103cm around just over 5 foot 6 and relatively small build. A few of us have measured on the Due Jan thread and we vary by a lot.

I am 38 1/2 weeks and a couple of days ago my girth was 152!!! Today it is 132...? and I definitely feel baby has dropped. Mw thinks baby a good 8lb already. I'm nearly 5'7'' and was a good size 16 before I got pregnant this time. I would think it would (and does) vary hugely.

LittleMissRACHEYXmasBigTits · 23/12/2005 23:24

Durr... no it wasn't 152 it was 132 - I am going slightly insane

4blue1pink · 23/12/2005 23:32

I wonder what it is supposed o be then - 100 does sound small....i have 6 weeks to go and oanicking that it is unduly large!

Size varies from person to person surely? - I'm 5 ft 3ins tall, 36 weeks pg & 115 cm - loads bigger than a friend of mine who is a similar height & 39 wks! I wouldn't worry about it.
