Polymorphic Eruption

Hi, I've been diagnosed with polymorphic eruption, use to be called PUPP. It's basically a rash all over my body & is SO itchy. Anyone had it before & knows of anything to help the itching?? It's driving me mad as I can't stop itching! I've been prescribed piriton & some mild cream which doesn't seem to be helping much :-(
Any suggestions would be gratefully received! Thanks X

Hello, is this pregnancy related? I ask because I get it but from exposure to sunlight. Am supposed to avoid the sun but am a bit of a sunworshipper and persevere with it anyway. For me, anti histamines and aloe vera gel help wih the itch. Don't scratch, makes it way worse! Also cool flannels / cloths on the really bad bits and no man made fabrics.

Hi, thanks for the tips! Yes it is pregnancy related, am 33 weeks and the rash first appeared a week ago on my tummy but has now spread all over my arms, legs, feet and now hands! I really try not to scratch but I can't help it!!!!

Calamine lotion? You'd have to check it's safe to use during pregnancy tho as I'm not sure

I developed PUPPPs a few weeks ago, around my tummy button and it drove me totally round t bend. Luckily my hubby is a GP so gave me some steroid cream to try, which is mild and safe to use. I then went along to my own GP, who specialises in dermatology who prescribed me more of the steroid (elocon), along with double base moisturiser and piriton (if I really needed help to get to sleep).
A combination of these things seemed to work, as my itching came under control within a cpl of weeks and now has luckily disappeared and didn't spread much further than my tummy.
It is truly awful and i really sympathise with u - try to get an appt with ur GP and get some meds to help u.
I also found that a hot shower helped and read somewhere about avoiding citrus fruits - not sure if that was just a coincidence tho.

I'd go with aqueous calamine cream rather than the lotion as the lotion can dry your skin out. Keep the cream in the fridge to make it more cooling.

If the itch is becoming unbearable I would make an appointment with you GP to discuss some antihistamines.

Thanks so much for all your advice, really appreciate it! Have got an appointment tomorrow with the doctor at the antenatal clinic so hopefully he'll be able to give me some steroid cream, as the cream the dermotologist prescribed me hasn't helped at all! I think I need some scratch mitts as I seem to scratch my skin to death in the night!
