Had my scan this morn....after having cramps

I had a early scan this morn because of having severe cramps, i knew already i may measure up small because

A - i was using ovulation tests while ttc and i ovulated late that month

B - i didnt test pos+ till 4 days late, got a neg- day period due.

What they said was they couldnt find no reson for the pain (i had no bleeding), all is where it should be, but they couldnt see a fetus only a yolk sac so are putting me at 5 weeks instead of 6.

Is it normal to only see a yolk sac at 5 weeks? i have to go back next Thurs for a repeat scan to check for heartbeat.I am just worried now, and will be over xmas.

Thanks for reading

yes it is normal

sounds like you are less far on than you thought. Shame you have this worry over xmas. Cramping in early days is very normal and as long as there is no bleeding you should be fine.

sorry i cant answer your question either

i just wanted to say hope everything is ok and you are feeling better soon, as i remembered the last thread you started i im glad to see your gp arranged this scan for you

all the best for whatever happens on thursday. dont think about it too much over christmas if you can manage it xxx

I think it is normal yes, as far as I knew u wouldn't see a heart beat till 6 weeks so prob why they want you to go back. if there's no bleeding and sac's looking good then that's something to keep positive for

if u're only 5 weeks as well it would prob explain the late pos test.

fingers crossed - fraid no drinking for u this w/e.

yes it is normal to see a yolk sac. I know next Thursday may seem a long time away and it is rotten luck to have Christmas in the meantime.
it is worrying to feel cramping but try to stay positive and calm and just take one day at a time
hope you get a good result on Thursday and you have relaxing Christmas

Yeah normal! I had a scan last monday, and only saw the yolk sac!
Went back this morning, and it had changed completly, could see beanies heart beating away! Im now 6+4!!

yes it is normal to see only at yolk sac at five weeks. they would expect to see a fetal pole at six weeks, and a heartbeat at between six and eight weeks. I had an external scan on a friday, which showed only a yolk sac, then an internal scan on the tuesday 4 days later which showed the fetal pole and heartbeat.

pucca · 21/12/2005 22:18

Thanks everyone..you have all made me feel so much better. Will update when i have the scan next Thurs.

I don't think I ever saw a heartbeat before 7 weeks. (I'm a reasonably big girl, which might affect matters?)
