Ifs and Buts - dilemma

OH and I been ttc for 3months. I had made a decision that though not happy at work, starting a family is more important than looking for another job.

Some big stuff has happened at work which means I do need to look for another job so we decided to put ttc on hold for a few more months. Low and behold, pretty sure I am pregnant though waiting a few more days to test in case its just stress.

I have applied for a couple of jobs, if I get an interview or get offered the job at what pount should I tell prospective employers? WWYD?

Caveat - Totally aware I may be stressing for no reason!

There are so many variables in here ... if you are totally honest right from the interview stage, then some unscrupulous employers could undoubtedly use that as a reason not to employ you. It's unlawful, but it happens and it is very hard to prove and challenge.

For other employers, not being upfront might cause them to question your integrity when they find out later. Trouble is, you don't know what sort of employer you're applying for in this regard.

Personally, I wouldn't say anything at this point. Pregnancy should NOT form any part of their decision to recruit you or not, so I would remove that risk by not telling them yet. It sounds like early days in your pregnancy, so you have plenty of time before you'd have to tell them anything. If you get offered one of the jobs, then I'd consider telling them at that point although I'd probably wait a bit longer until you're actually established in the role. You could always say you didn't know you were pregnant until later on.

Thanks Kdiddy, Thats along the lines I had been thinking. As the roles are senior, I think I would have to tell them if offered the job.

This is all my own fault, we've been waiting to start a family for years to be in the right situation then everything turns upside down!

Hi there, I am kind of in your would be situation. I had my LMP the day of my interveiw. Started the job when I was 7 weeks pregnant, am now 13 weeks. I have still not told anyone but am planning to within the next two weeks. I am not looking forward to the reveal but you no, they just have to deal with it. I can only hope that I have shown my worth up til this point.

Hi Razzdazz You can always say you didn't know when you started the job as it was early enough in your pregnancy.

don't mention it until the point that you have signed on the dotted line and have a nice contract and legal protection in your hands.

Employers are not allowed to discriminate against pregnant women but unfortunately it does still happen.
