Is a dating scan different to 12 week scan?

Have been sent an appointment for a dating scan. I will be either 8 or 13 weeks when I have it and assume that is what the scan is to find out.
However if I am 13 weeks then is that too late for the 12 week scan?

it depends if your hospital offer the nuchal scan. mine didn't so you would just get your dating scan or '12 week' scan anything between 9-14 weeks.

if yours offers the nuchal and your not at the right stage for it you should be asked back for another.

No I had my dating scan along with the nuchal test at 13+4.

No, I had my dating scan at 7 or 8 weeks as I had no idea when I was due, I was on the pill and running packs together so no bleed. I should imagine if it turns out you are 13 weeks, they'll do the nuchal at the same time anyway.

We don't get the nuchal scan here anyway unless you go private, which I am not.
Thanks for the replies, I'm hoping I get to see the MW for booking in before the scan anyway so will just check with her.
