I hate wasting food...

Chicken's best before was yesterday, normally I'd cook it anyway, but being up the duff makes me 1. more cautious, and 2. very indecisive.

Would you roast it or chuck it?

Smell it. You'll be able to tell if it's off, especially as you're pregnant

totally know what you mean. If I wasn't pregnant, I wouldnt think twice about cooking & eating it....however if you think you might spend the next 3 weeks worrying about having eaten it (which I probably would do when pregnant!), then don't bother, its not worth the hassle!

Can you cook it and give to your other half? (thereby poisoning him but not you?!!!).

ooh yes, I've been known to cook stuff and feed it to DH.

themightyskim · 04/10/2011 17:02

im terrible even when not pregnant I wouldnt eat that, but I have OCD and a fear of poisoning people - the OH on the other hand just cooks stuff and feeds it to me and only confesses that it was out of date if I get an upset stomach, its a habit my pregnant self is trying to beat out of him at present Hmm

"best before" is the label they want to get rid of - "use before" should be taken note of, but I wouldn't worry about "best before". If you joint it before cooking it then you can be extra sure the heat gets to all the meat - and cook it really really well, more to stop you worrying than anything else. TBH chicken that is well within its BB date can be dodgy too - you just always need to cook it really well.

I don't like the smell of raw chicken - it reminds me of the smell of DH's grandad just before he died (I can say that here because it's anonymous)!

Going to feed the bird to DH and I'm going to have Welsh rarebit! Thanks for the input!

TBH I wouldn't cook it if I wasn't pregnant.

Hope dinner went ok.
