is it common for them to get you to start pushing even if you not 10cm?

i was made to push with my dd even though i wasnt 10 cm dilated. dd eventually got stuck and distressd and i had to have an emergency c section.
a midwife a few weeks ago, as i am expecting no. 2. says they wouldnt have me pushing unless i was 10 cm. so now i am so confused.
just wondering if anyone else had to push before 10cm dilated.
thanks

My MV told me that nobody would ever tell me to push, that when my body was ready I would have to push, and that was 100% correct.
I was 10cm and got an extremely overwhelming urge to push.

i didnt feel the urge to push, they told me. i had been in labour for about 28 hours by this point.
i have never questioned it til now as expecting number 2 and want a vbac this time. so i have millions of questions running around my head

i was 9cm and had just a rim of cervix left on the left hand side w/INTENSE contractions, but no urge to push until 10cm.
