I know its a load of cobblers but I was bored and got talked into it by my sis..anyway the result was it went round and round which means its supposed to be a girl!!! (to and fro for a boy)..As im only 15 weeks I have no idea what my little babe is and really dont mind either way!! Has anyone done this and found out off their scan it to be correct..Just a bit of fun for the weekend..let me know xx Dx

You'll think I'm mad but a friend of mine is heavily into crystals, pendulums, that sort of thing, and she had got a new pendulum that she was trying out. She was asking all kinds of questions to try and get to know her responses to it and at one point asked whether I was pregnant, expecting a negative as she knew that I had no plans to have children at all ... the pendulum went absolutely haywire swinging aound in circles. She was adamant I was pregnant with a girl, I was equally adamant that she was barking. A day or two later, after copious amounts of throwing up and with very sore boobs I took the test. Of course, I knew there was no way I was pregnant ...

It might have been a huge co-incidence of course ... but dd is now 4.5

I was told to try this when pregnant with DS2. The ring went round & round, which is meant to indicate the baby is a girl & he is 100% boy!

expatinscotland · 17/12/2005 16:33

It was wrong for me this time. It said boy. Roisin is a girl. Chinese calendar also wrong.

HumphreysCorner · 17/12/2005 16:58

dewberry1-I am a great believer in this and have had a 100% success rate with this method with me and all my friends. I am currently 12 weeks with my 2nd and the string currently indicates a boy so will see if this is right at the 20 week scan.

Good Luck

((xx))

Funny, I was thinking about this last night - when I was in the States (about 10 years ago) there was a girl who did the string thing to predict whether you would have boys or girls. She did me and said two boys, followed by two girls. Well so far I have had two girls followed by one boy! (not that I took it seriously anyway!)

notasheep · 17/12/2005 18:41

dewberry-we did string test several times(as hospital refuses to let you know sex of child) each time it was a girl,so what a surprise-we had a boy!!
and didnt even have a name for him!

Every old wives tale suggested I was having a boy (big bump out front etc etc) but the string test said 'it' was a girl ... convinced we were having a boy but then dd arrived !! So it must be true

CaChristmasLista · 17/12/2005 20:07

Was correct in every case for me and several of my friends!

InternationalGirl · 27/12/2005 19:27

The string test has worked for my three - 2 girls and the one in my belly is a boy says the string test - (hubby made me lie down and let him do this 'test' as he wanted to 'know' if we were having the boy he has been waiting for), the bump 'out the front' and twice viewing his little manhood on the scan. Also worked for my mother-in-law with her three babies.

Nettee · 28/12/2005 11:04

i did this for ds and it was right - I didn't have any inkling or strong preferance either to bias the result.

laurenholly · 04/01/2006 21:38

when i was pregnant with dd1 my auntie done that to me and it said i was having a girl and guess what i did so it maybe right it was for me

aprilgirl · 05/01/2006 14:00

how do you actually do the test?

Mum2OneAndBump · 05/01/2006 14:05

I did this test the other day & it went round & round in circles, we were told at our 22 week scan its a girl, baby due in 2 weeks so will let you know if it is right or not.

Can someone point me in the right direction for the chinese calendar? my friend was going on about this i have never seen it.?

Mum2OneAndBump · 05/01/2006 14:06

Oh & to do the test Aprilgirl you need to lie down get some cotton/string & tie it to a ring, hang it over your belly & if it goes around in circles it's ment to be a girl & back & forward is ment to be a boy. Goodluck.

FrayedKnot · 05/01/2006 14:08

My grandfather used to do this and got every grandchild right until poor dsis who had a blue nursery and lots of blue clothes as a result!

I believe you are supposed to use the woman's wedding ring although what happens if you are not married, I'm not sure!

Mum2OneAndBump · 05/01/2006 14:10

I am not married but engaged so i used my engagement ring!

vickiyumyum · 05/01/2006 14:12

found this one on google, obviously can't guarantee its authnticity, but accordin to this i will have a girl, and the string test and my scan, so only another 10 weeks to find out if they are right!

If you don't have a ring you can use a needle; according to my pendulum-swinging friend you can use anything that gives some weight to the string. She prefers metal or crystal, but you can use anything that dangles. It's just that a ring has a nice convenient hole to pass the cotton through!
