leaking?

Sorry - this is really embarrasing. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and I've been wondering if I am leaking amniotic fluid for a few weeks now, as I get quite a bit of dampness. At the 20 week scan, I was told the liquor levels were normal, but had no other tests down about it. Should I be concerned? My next appointment is not till the New Year.

I had this with both mine and it was just discharge, it can get very watery at around 20 weeks and it gets confusing doesn't it! If you're really worried go to your hospital, after a mammoth wait they'll do a five second test on you!

(It could be wee have you smelled it?!)

Er, yes and it did smell a bit ammonia-like, which is what worries me. But so does urine apparently. What can be done anyway? The doc was just confident that all was fine on the ultrasound. Are there any other symptoms?

agree with Fastasleepinamanger

The pressure your baby is putting on your pelvice floor and your bladder is probably the reason

Get kegel-ing love

Oranges - Amniotic fluid doesn't smell ammonia like!! It doesn't really smell of anything.... but urine does. So by the sounds of it... you maybe leaking urine. Don't worry too much.

FastasleepInAManger · 16/12/2005 15:20

Mine didn't smell of anything and was still discharge, but yes waters smell of nothing - mine leaked for 7 hours before I went into labour (well gushed!)... the hind waters can smell rather ripe though..

I'm sure you're fine, ammonia definately doesn't sound like waters

pmsl! we've all been there oranges.
i bet if you did a poll 99% of mumsnetters have smelled their own pants. probablym ore than once! and probably not only in pregnancy!!! haha

foundintransleightion · 16/12/2005 15:35

I had this oranges, and got quite worried a couple of times. Discharge does increase during pg, and mine definitely got thinner.

FastasleepInAManger · 16/12/2005 19:35

I admit to sniffing my knickers more than once and when I wasn't pregnant too... (those days of sort-of-studentyness when nothing was ever clean!)

followthestarlover · 16/12/2005 19:37

yeah yeah, you just like it don't you!

I was a compulsive pants checker too - at first for bleeding and then for leaking being pregnant does nothing for your self respect at times!
I agree with others - normal discharge goes very watery at this time, you can also sweat more down there leaving little wet patches believe it or not and the extra weight can also take toll on our bladder control for the best of us.
If you are really worried, wear a pad for a morning and if it is more than a bit damp and feels quite wet, ring your midwife for advice. Amniotic fluid is clear and smells "clean" I guess, even slightly sweet?!?! Not ammonia like at all - that is def wee! sorry!
