Sorting through baby clothes - chances of a smaller baby after a big one?

Am just sorting through dd's baby clothes before I start the arduous washing and ironing in prep for dd2. Some of the clothes, given by friends are newborn, up to 7lb 6oz. DD never wore them to my knowledge because she was 8lb 10oz. Is it a 50/50 chance this baby could be smaller or is she more likely to be similar or bigger than dd1?

Im wondering this too as DS was 9lb 4. I read somewhere that second babies tend to be bigger but that if your first baby was large, might not be the case. For the life of me I can't remember what "large" meant!

IME they get bigger - dd was 8lb 6oz, ds1 was 9lb 3oz and ds2 was 9lb 4oz.

Not sure if it's because boys are bigger or not - hoping the trend doesn't continue, as I'm expecting ds3.

Mine were all 41 week babies if that makes a difference.

DS was 9lb 2oz, ten days late. Was told DD would be considerably smaller after a had a growth scan, she was born 8 days late and was 9lb 5oz! What a surprise that was! Hardly used first size clothes!

Mine were 8lbs 10oz, 8lbs 15oz, and then 8lbs 1oz. DS2 got more wear out of newborn than either of the others!

That's what I thought really. Have bought a couple of new sleep suits etc for hospital and have found only Tesco makes newborn size up to 10lb. All the other shops are more like 9 and with the size of DD, I thought this one was quite likely to be bigger. But at the same time 0-3 would swamp a newborn.

Sod the weights, that you iron baby clothes!

But back to the point, DS1 was 8lb 3 oz, Ds2 was 7 lb 7 oz.

But you know you won't know till she arrives, don't you? Get 'em ready anyway, just in case.

DS was 9lb 3oz, delivered at exactly 40 weeks. DD was 7lb 10oz at 40+3.

They say second babies are bigger but it's not always true.

DS was 10lb 4oz - didn't fit into any of the newborn stuff or the cute bootees that people had knitted for him.

I've kept everything though, including some girls clothes that friends have donated, as I don't know the sex and this baby may not be toddler-sized!
