How successful are cervical sweeps?

Anyone any experience with them?
How effective was yours or ones you've heard about?

I had three. Had to be induced on day 40 + 13. Sorry.

I had one at 40+3.

DD arrived within 24 hours

How many weeks are you - why are you having it done?

I know someone who's just had a very effective one - baby arrived within 12hrs .

Mine, at 41 weeks (first pg), was no use at all. It just made me feel very weepy and hormonal. I went into labour spontaneously at 41+6.

It's worth a pop though.

Didn't work for me - I had to be induced a week later. The registrar at the hospital was quite positive about it though.

I had one with dd2. My waters broke about 8 hours later, but still didn't go into labour, so had to be induced. Sorry, not what you want to hear.

Very weird, midwife was touching ds head!

But ineffective in my case I am afraid, had to wait 10 more days...

Had three on consecutive days 40+10,11,12 had to be induced the next day so I'm afraid it didn't work for me. However I was very unsure of dates and come from a family of "long bakers"

I went in with false alarm 18 days before edd
was baby goign from posterior to normal.
midwife gave me a sweep - I did not ask for one, did not hurt was bit worried that she never checked with em first

Anyway dd was born 4 days later 14 days ahead of edd
labour was as with my ds very fast and easy.

Changed my mn name for obvious reasons here, but Thomcat I got my dh (a vet) to do a sweep on me at 40+11 and waters broke the next day. Ooooh the shame, but I was desparate!

I had one on my due date with dd3. She was born less than 24 hours later

I had one at 40wks with ds1 and it didn't work. Then again it took almost 3 days for the induction to work (started at 41wks) so he was obviously determined to stay where he was.

With ds2 I had a sweep the day before induction was due. This time I'd already been having twinges but again it had no effect. Sorry!

Don't think it's gonna work. Had it done at 10am and since then eaten so much pinapple I wanna puke and walked round park and local area with Lottie in buggy for an hour and a half and now having some fresh raspberry leaf tea.
Also had a clary sage bath last night and this morning.
Having a hot curry tonight and sex. There's not much else I can do really. What will be, will be.

TC - I had a sweep, then a few hours later had sex.... contractions started with an hour of sex! So I put it down to a combination of both.

I had one with dd1. I was 5 days overdue and the dr said I'll just check to see if you're dialated then told me that he'd done a sweep. I had no idea what a sweep was and he never asked me if I wanted one done so was quite angry with him.

That was the Tuesday morning, had niggly pains from that afternoon onwards until my waters broke on the Saturday night. Dd1 was born just past midnight on the Monday.

I went a week overdue with dd2 and was asked this time if I wanted a sweep and refused point blank. I went into labour naturally the next day.
