I think you'll be fine, especially as it won't be on an empty stomach. In some countries they still drink a glass of wine a day with their evening meal

Unless you're going to eat the whole tiramisu (and by that I mean the whole one on the dessert trolley) I'd say get it down you! In a normal tiramisu the biscuits are soaked in a slosh of alcohol (Grand Marnier, brandy, coffee liqueur, whatever) and the overall alcohol content for the whole pudding would be negligible, so one portion would be less than one unit. Enjoy!

sounds great but it doesn't have raw egg in it, does it? Probably not, but might be worth double checking. I read something recently about being careful with tiramisu which surprised me. I'll try and dig it out but until I do, I would assume it's ok and I've got the wrong end of the stick!

TurkeyGang · 13/12/2005 21:33

mmmm...a whole Tiramisu!

geranium · 13/12/2005 21:33

babycentre.co.uk says that sometimes tiramisu contains raw egg white. Might be worth calling the restaurant and just double-checking how they have made it. Alternatively, put out a call for SweetKitty. She seems to be the voice of perspective and sweet reason where eating in pregnancy is concerned.

the other option was apple and nut strudel which didnt sound as appetising!

yeah, home-made tiramisu has raw egg in it. And booze (though not that much booze). And coffee, if you're worried about caffeine...

I do know someone (a man, fortunately), who got salmonella poisoning from tiramisu eaten in a restaurant, so it is worth being careful about it.

hotmulledwinemama · 13/12/2005 21:39

I'm 34 weeks pregnant - and at this stage I'm past caring re alcohol. TBH even a whole tiramasu (sp) wouldn't have a load of alcohol in - marsala wine should only be used to soak the sponge biscuit thingys?

As the previous poster has asked is it being made with raw egg? If it is being made properly from scratch then it may well be - if bought may not be. I would ask as you do have to be careful re raw eggs because of risk of listeria etc.

tuppenceworth · 13/12/2005 21:54

It can be made with raw egg whites but not always. I'd check with the restaurant. These days they'd be edgy about people contracting salmonella so they mightn't use the traditional recipe.
