Baby might be here sooner rather than later...

I'm a bit nervous. Saw consultant this morning as a routine follow up due to reduced movements 2 weeks ago. They said baby hasn't grown in 2 weeks and my amniotic fluid has reduced. I'm now sat in the hospital cafe, waiting for an appointment with another consultant who will decide whether to wait it out, or get get baby out sooner.

My section is booked for 39+4, I'm currently 35+5, and still at work. When I said to my consultant that I would need to ring work and tell them I'd be late back today, he said I won't be going back to work now.

Im now panicking as consultant has said my placenta is 'failing', so I want her out safe, if the next consultant tells me to incubate her for longer I think I'll go mad as I never feel 10 movements per day and I'll be even more worried now Sad.

It's all happening so quickly...

I almost had DS1 at 35 weeks (but didn't till 38 weeks). They gave me steriod injections 12 hours apart to strengthen his lungs. Do you have someone with you? Can your DH come to next appointment. I did spend 6 weeks in hospital before delivering DS1 it is a long and boring time but they offer lots of reassurance. If you don't have your hospital bag packed mabye you could write a list of things you will need for someone to get for you? Tedious I know but it might keep your mind busy - hospitals are horrible places to wait around and you might be in for a long day.

I am sure someone with more experience in this will be along soon

Sorry you're having such a tough time cup, is DP with you or can he or someone else join you at the hospital? If it were me it would make the waiting easier to have someone with me.

As the others said, is there any chance of your partner or a friend coming to keep you company? Writing a hospital bag list is a good idea - useful in case you need it, and something to keep you occupied while you wait if not.

I hope you get seen soon and it all goes well whichever way it ends up.

It must be an agonising wait and I like the suggestion of writing the hospital bag list, great idea!

If someone's not with you yet, call someone now! I'm sure anyone you want won't mind coming straight away to be with you.

And remember that whatever they want to do it's because they want the best outcome for you and the baby. 35+5 is not ridiculously early so hopefully everything will be ok.

I was admitted at 35 weeks and had DS1 at 36 weeks due to pre eclampsia. It wasn't brilliant, but it wasn't terrible either. I was banking on him being late though and hadn't bought much stuff, including breastfeeding bras. Like you, I was also still working. If you are planning to breastfeed and don't have breastfeeding bras yet I'd suggest that you send a female relative or friend out to buy them for you. EIther that or choose what you want from the mothercare catalogue and send your partner off to buy them. I found I needed them a day after the birth as my boobs were just so sore if they were unsupported. I just told my DH that I needed nursing bras. You should have seen what he bought. I swear that he gave the midwives the biggest laugh that they'd had in a long time. Thankfully my Mum came to the rescue and went shopping for me the next day. Good luck.

fingers crossed for you - placenta failed on me too with DS1 and we had to be delivered early. its good that they are on the case and that you have made it to more than 35 weeks.

As a quick guide altough 37 weeks is term, a consultant told me last time that she considered 34 weeks term as pretty much all of the development is done by then. Generally it is considered that after 29 weeks then there is a much rosier picture.

btw the steroid injections knack - i know its not the most important thing to note but they really do smart! sounds like they might be gearing up for delivery so I'd get on the phone to have someone with you.

If they do decide to deliver your baby may need some help and might spend some time in SCBU. Have been through that myself so if you have any questions or want me to let you know a bit of what it is like, let me know

My second son was born at 35+6 without steroid injections and had no problems, we were out of hospital 3 days later

Ds3 was born at 32+1 and spent 10 days in hospital

They have booked me in for a section on Friday morning when I will be exactly 36 weeks. I had a steroid injection today and my pre op, and I am back in tomorrow for another lot of steroids and another stint on the CTG.

I feel so incredibly nervous, and wish it was Friday morning already, I want her out and safe.

Dh has gone to work until 11pm, so I'm on my own with my other girls, and feel like a bag of nerves. Can't concentrate on anything right now except, 'Is she moving?' Confused

Cupoftea - I've been lurking and watching this thread all day - just wanted to wish you all the best and hope Friday rolls round quickly for you. At least the hospital have their watchful eye on you which has to be a good thing.

good luck - have spent many hours on ctg with similar issues so know what it is like. also had to have a cs so know what that is like too and wishing you a speedy recovery.

will have everything crossed for you - have they mentioned an estimated weight for your lo?

Good luck my ds2 who was born at 35+ 6 was 5lb 15, I know how you feel my waters broke with him 4 days before he was born and with ds3 they broke 6 days before and I had to stay in for monitoring, the waiting and worrying was torture, let us know how it all goes

I've had 2 sections before, so I'm ok with that. Dd2 was in scbu for 5 days with breathing difficulties, so I do have experience of that too.

I'm hoping the steroids will give her a good chance at avoiding scbu. Smile

Any of you who have had steroids- can they affect you in any way? I'm very crampy in my lower back and having lots of tightenings. I'm also very 'wet' down below. Blush She may have chosen to come early anyway!

Sorry if I sound like a worry wart.

can't remember any wetness after the injections but was a couple of years ago and suffering with baby brain currently....

Just to say good luck, DD1 caused lots of hours of monitoring for this reason too. Very stressful, she finally appeared a week early, naturally the day she was due to be induced. My 6 lb little dot is now 13 and taller than me!

Glad they didn't rush you in too urgently how scary!

I didn't notice any tightening or cramp after steriod injections, be careful with the wetness your waters may be leaking, maybe she just can't wait to meet you Smile

Hi my daughter was born at 34 weeks no steroid injections she was fine breathing etc she had an infection only because hospital wouldn't believe my waters had gone when obviously had hence infection. Apart from that she was perfect!

If your amniotic fluid is low and u feel damp I would certainly be having words at moving csection sooner

Phone the hospital as ur waters might be leaking which like has already been said can lead to infection, the baby could even be stressed so always best to get it checked. X

Dh is at work until 11pm, so there is little point in ringing the hospital until then as I wouldn't be able to get myself there until he is home to look after girls. I am staying positive and willing little lady to move so I can reassure myself.

One of the names we liked for her is Patience. I don't think we can call her that now, as she clearly doesn't have any!

Maybe put a pad on if you have some, I didn't have cramping after steroid injection with ds3 but I didn't go into labour till nearly a week later, both ds2 and ds3 were early due to premature rupture of membranes

I agree that you should go and be examined as your waters may be leaking. If they are not good luck for friday!

Well I went to antenatal assessment unit this morning for second lot of steroids and ctg. Unfortunately ctg didn't 'meet criteria' so they put me nil by mouth and admitted me to labour ward to give me EMCS.

However, they then did another trace which satisfied the 2 registrars. So, they moved me to antenatal ward where I had another good ctg at 8pm. So I am now in bed, waiting until 10 to take my pre op anti acid, then I am going to try hard to get some good sleep before they take me back to labour ward at 8am to queue for ELCS.

Feeling more relieved now after 2 good traces, and am actually excited for the first time to meet my little girl. Wrote each of my dds a little card last night to give them as a reminder of me whilst I am away. That was the first time I cried, think it hit home that this is earlier than expected, but just as real. Smile
