Avoiding drink during the party season

I've been invited to various xmas parties over the next few weeks. I'm in the early stages of my pg so don't want to announce my good news yet. However, what excuses can I give to everyone as to the reason for staying off the drink?

Say you're on antibiotics.

make sure you drive
you're on antibiotics
You got so hammered at a party recently you can't face another drop
you think you might be allergic to it

bossykate · 09/12/2005 13:33

you might accept a glass of wine but only take a couple of sips... or have a sparkling water and tell everyone it is vodka and tonic... say you are driving... say you are taking anti-biotics... oh, yes please, i'd love a drink in a minute but please could i have a glass of water first...

At dinner parties, say yes please and drink a few sips ... then swap with partner subtly as his glass goes down as evening goes along. No-one will notice as everyone else is getting drunk. I was amazed I got away with it.
Say yes at party, then swap your glass for something else when they aren't looking.

what about the, oh I was out last night and I got so drunk and now so hung over I couldn't possibly have a drink today.....

My friend had just found out she was about 6 weeks pregnant when we went abroard for my hen party. She had only know for about 1 day but decided she didn't want anyone to know but came away anyway.
Well she drinks Vodka and Coke so when she was stood with a coke it didn't look any differnt (from my own experience, its best to ask the bar man to give you a coke in a "usual" spirit glass...this way it doesn't look any different!! Otherwise they usually give you one in a taller glass...looks dodgy straight away!! ),Anyway, when it was our round we were geting her Vodkas. I since found out she was drinking the vodka's (only about 3 the whole night..BUT NOT RECOMMENDED) We were hammered quite early so tbh we didn't even notice if she she was drinking toilet water!! LOL..!!
I remember thinking "god xxxx looks ill" but didn't twig, I fell pregnant soon after and know how she was feeling that night and am amazed she actually made it out that night! I still tell her she was crazy drinking just to try and cover up.

say you are on a strict diet - no alcohol for 6 weeks then just 2 glasses a week

I did antibiotics and offered to drive a lot (and came up with really crap reasons why we had to drive places).

If we were out I would make sure it was me or dp who went to the bar to get my "G&T" (without the "G" obviously) - but just make sure you drink it slowly as if it is not just a soft drink.

I was known amongst my friends as always being a good solid drinker who was always up for a tipple and a laugh. After I announced I was pg I asked my friends if they didn't find it odd that I hadn't been drinking for the past few months, and they all said that they hadn't really registered - basically people are so caught up in their own business, they really don't notice!

fisiltoe · 09/12/2005 21:12

oh, and when I said I was antibiotics as my excuse, no one ever, ever asked me what they were for!

ISawFrannyandZooeyKissingSanta · 09/12/2005 21:13

Yes, antibiotics. If asked further say loudly "A Urinary Infection, actually" and you should be left alone.
