Pregnant with No. 5 - Just completely shocked and a bit panicky....

This morning I POAS and got a BFP - not sure how far along I am as really cannot remember the last time I had a period but have been feeling crook for weeks - Not sure what I am feeling at all - DH and me are very very pleased as we would have had another anyway and had to be sooner rather than later as I am 41... but still was hoping to move etc.

Now I am really worried that could be quite far along and have missed the opportunity to have nuchal scans etc. Does anyone know if you have missed deadlines for these on the NHS if they can be done in a different way at a later date?

OMG I feel like a knocked-up teenager. I spent half an hour this morning apologising to my (delighted) DH.....

I didn't find out until about 18 weeks in with my last one (number 3) as I had the mirena coil and so my periods had stopped 6 months previously, so I understand some of what you feel. Can't remember/help on scan dates, sorry, Someone who can will be along (probably before I manage to post this!)

I jokingly said to Dh as we got her into the house last night - oh well we can wait a bit for a baby then (hollow laugh)

congratulations. If you want "yes/no" results on Downs and other genetic disorders you can have an amnio between 16 to 19 weeks. I'd imagine you'd know if you were that far along since baby would likely be kicking! You can find out about all the available tests by googling, or try the Fetal Medicine Centre web site.

At least by the time the baby arrives, you won't be getting up to go out with the puppy. Do you have a puppy pic? Sorry, shouldn't derail your pregnancy announcement.

No no MmeLindor - puppy is important too - no pics as yet but she is a little black fluffy jack russell crossed with a poodle - looks like a poo but definitely jr in attitude. My children are completely completely delighted with her and she is very relaxed so it is a good distraction whilst Dh and I panic quietly about house moving/bigger cars/ etc etc

You can have the baby in with you for at least 6 months - we managed a year with number 3 when we were waiting to move house. So that gives you over a year to move. A new car may be more urgent! Congratulations Smile

Re the puppy - it's a lot like having a new baby, only one that can move around straight away. Exhausting at first but the good news is that the really tiring up-at-5-am-clearing-up-puppy-sick stage doesn't last long at all. By the time the baby arrives you will have a young dog, much easier to manage.

Focus on the house training. The quicker you nail that, the less time you will spend cleaning up!

Well we helpfully have 2 boys and two girls - the littlest is just a year and in a few months he will move his brother. We do have a seven seater but were planning on getting a 9 seat landrover... but it was all just talk and now we have to make it happen - crikey

And thanks everyone for the congrats - I just want to know that everything is going to be OK with the baby and then I can enjoy - but honestly I do feel so incredibly blessed

They can't do the nuchal test combined with the blood test past 14 weeks, after that you get offered a blood test on it's own which is about 10% less effective than the two combined (so my MW told me after getting sent home from my first scan because baby was too wriggly to measure!). If you want a definite answer though you can always ask for the amniocentesis test for reassurance.

I cannot imagine that I can be more than 14 weeks.. even for me that would be really crap. I actually think I have been too busy to notice and kept thinking to myself 'oh my period is due soon....'

I am scared to hell about having an amnio - all our results before have been so low after testing we have never had one but my age is not on my side is it.

Jollster - thank you, I know how lucky I am I really do, especially at my age...

Well the good news is I have called the GP, she has faxed through a scan request due to the dates thing My district Midwife who delivered the last two at home is on her way round for a 'feel' to see how far along she thinks I am and then she will lobby the hospital to get a date asap - failing that i will go private (ironically at the same hospital with the same consultant)

Well MmeLindor - the bet is on - I am having a scan today at 4pm! After meeting a bloody brick wall with the booking people even though they had two urgent requests form GP and Midwife delivered Tuesday - I called the nice lady who is a fetal medicine specialist and she fitted me in today (she is a massive star) and thankfully on the NHS. Really aware that I do have amazing care here.

Please everyone wish me luck as I am as nervous as hell and DH cannot come with me as he is doing some important work thing.... Just praying everything is ok as had a small bleed when I was away (and before it dawned on me I was up le duff)

Just praying everything is ok with the little one.
