Non-wired bras?

Just been to M&S for a fitting and they have told me that I MUST wear non-wired bras during pregnancy. I thought that underwired were ok ad long as the were fitted properly and the wire didn't dig in?

The assistant spent ages with me but I have comd away with two non wired bras that are soooo big they come almost up to my neck! Anyone worn underwired bras? Is it ok to do so?

I'm 30 weeks and still wearing them- although i'm starting to find they are getting uncomfortable towards the end of the day. As long as they're fitted correctly and sit on your ribs properly you should be fine x

Take them back and ignore their non wired advice. It's rubbish!

That's daft, wore underwired until I had DD. M&S non-wired give me uni-boob, ugly and so unflattering. Now BF'ing and have some non wired as they are easier on the boob, but have an elomi soft wire, which is like underwire, but better when BF'ing and has drop cups, 34J looks bad in non wired. M&S BF'ing bras were very very uncomfy and had recurrent mastitis 'til I changed. An ill fitting bra does more damage than underwire.

It's totally fine to wear underwires as long as:

1. The underwires are not sitting on breast tissue (i.e. are fitting properly...)
2. Baby isn't kicking at the wires and making you miserable.

I'd take the bras back...and complain...but at least take the bras back.

Sounds like you might be a larger cupsize "...they almost come up to my neck...", therefor it's definitely worth a trip to Bravissimo (when I went in saying "no way am I going into non-wired, I have back pain as it is" they said they rarely recommend a woman with big breasts go into non-wired...) John Lewis (and tell them you want wired, they will cater for you and know what to look for).

I do also have a night time/evening bra, which is non-wired, for when they're so sensitive they're keeping me awake, but atm I'm rarely wearing it and with my pre-pg vests being nice and snug now, I'm using them to stop myself from recieving a black eye/knocking over random things in the evenings.

I had a fitting at John Lewis today - highly recommend it (much better than my prev experience at M&S!). The fitter also suggested non-wired bras, just for longevity - they will be more comfortable in the long run once my ribcage expands and bust grows, she explained. But, for now (early days), wired well-fitting t-shirt bras are fine. So, I bought one 'comfy' non-wired bras and two underwired, both properly fitted. Prefer the shape of my bust under clothes when wearing underwired bras, so I'll do it as long as possible!

Seconding all the replies about underwiring being fine as long as it fits properly. I'm 24 weeks and have been wearing wired all the way through. I've no intention of stopping-particularly in public - unless it becomes really uncomfortable. I'm 30H now and non-underwired look absolutely terrible! Changing shape is depressing enough without having to look like an old granny!

I went to M&S when preg with DC1 and some old crone tried to sell me ridiculously enormous bras. I said that they'd show under pretty much all my tops, and she actually suggested that I bought new clothes!

This time, I have chosen non-wired bras because I found wires too uncomfortable, but got them in Mothercare where they actually have some nice - and not too parachutey - styles.
