16 Week Midwife Check up - What to Expect

This is mainly because DH wants to come along. Which is great and I don't mind, but he relies on trains to get to work and i don't see the point in him taking time off work for no reason if all they are going to do is take wee and blood samples!

Is there anything else they may do that will make it worth his while coming? I know he just doesn't want to feel left out.

For what I remember she only takes blood pressure, asks how you doing, talks about 12 wk scan, palpates belly... the usual stuff.

I never asked my husband to come and see MW because it's really nothing interesting.

I was i there for less than 3 mins... she took my blood preassure and checked my urine sample that was it! No listening for a heartbeat or anything

that's rubbish. Not heard a heartbeat yet. We thought we'd get to hear it at our 12 week scan, but apparantly not!

My mws do listen to the heartbeat at 16 weeks. Apart from that though, it was fairly standard- blood pressure, blood samples if they haven't yet been done, checking urine sample. And lots of checklists- symptoms to look out for, brief discussion of feeding choices, any concerns.

I had mine on Friday, it was really quick. Blood pressure check, urine sample and couple of questions about how I was feeling, and if I had sorted antenatal classes (it's my first baby). She did ask if I wanted to hear baby's heart beat, which you bet I did! I got to hear it (sometimes at 16 weeks she said they can't find it - because they still have so much much space to hide - but this is nothing to worry about) and it was fantastic. I'd definitely ask if she doesn't offer it.

I didn't ask my DH to come, and I was glad as it wasn't really worth it (although I would have loved him to have heard baby's heartbeat).

I think it just depends on what area you live in hun..i asked mine if she could listen to the heartbeat as i was worried, and her reply was "that isn't routine until your 24/25 week apt"!!

I still havent heard our heartbeat and im 24 weeks! Only have 1 more week to go lol

if they dont you can buy an angelsounds doppler off amazon... i know a few people have used it x

My 16 week appt was bloods, urine sampl, bp check and listened to heartbeat.
Surprised that some of you still haven't heard the hb at 24 weeks. We got to hear ours at the 12 week scan, but I wonder if that is because it was at Kings and their scanning is more specialised?

My mw does listen to heartbeat everytime I see her.

First time I heard my baby's heartbeat was at 11 weeks by mw.
It was few days before my scan and it was such a relief to hear that there was actually someone. I had mc last year.

Now at 12 weeks I can use my own doppler at home to listen to his heartbeat.

It's the most beautiful sound I know :)
