Now then, does anyone know what the language they use on ultrasound reports means?

Because mine is covered in numbers and strange shapes, and I haven't had time to ask about it yet.

GO on then... I'll give it a go... I'm slightly obsessed about this sort of thing.

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 22:43

hc is head circumference?

colditz · 06/12/2005 22:48

I have googled it, but don't understand a word they are on about. I'm not thick, as such, just undereducated

OP posts:
colditz · 06/12/2005 22:48

I know FL is Femur length....

OP posts:
feastofsteven · 06/12/2005 22:49

AC possibly abdominal circumference?

colditz · 06/12/2005 22:49

And the measurements might be a bit off, because I have a high BMI.

OP posts:
bluebear · 06/12/2005 22:49

BPD is biparietal diameter
HC usually Head circumference
AC may be abdominal circumference
FL is probably fetal length.

The upside down U with a flat line on top is a sort of 'N' for normal.

bluebear · 06/12/2005 22:51

FL = femur length - that would make more sense!

SackAche · 06/12/2005 23:04

Means your wee one is long legged.

My dd was like that at her 20wk scan too.

colditz · 06/12/2005 23:05

Bit worried because it's only the FL that ties in with the due date.....

Oh, I knew I was better off not knowing, why do I always have to ask!

OP posts:
followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 23:07

i am sure if they were worried they'd have said so!

bear in mind the measurements are not always spot on..

SackAche · 06/12/2005 23:10

Colditz - At that stage in pg measurements can be up to 2 wks out anyway. Stop worrying..... think of it more as proportional measurements than actual date measurements!

feastofsteven · 06/12/2005 23:11

colditz - I'm sure that DS measurements were all over the place at the 20 week scan too. If there were any concerns, they would have told you.

AwayInAMunker · 06/12/2005 23:12

Please don't worry about measurements on scans - they're all a bit out, IMO. They're talking fractions of millimetres here - and where one person puts the cross to mark the lengths or circumferences will differ from where another person does.

I had a growth scan today and the baby was measuring a little bit small (by a week and a bit) and they were very clear it wasn't anything to worry about. So don't you. And remember, they're averages. In some ways I'd be more worried if they were all showing exactly the same date!

colditz · 06/12/2005 23:15

Not that worried, they are all nearly right except the BPD.

bluebear · 07/12/2005 20:21

Colditz - I see loads of scan reports and they always give measurements like yours! People (and 19 week fetuses) are all shapes and sizes, if anything was particularly out of range you would have been told at the scan.
