my 20-wk scan revealed it's a boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the mother of four DDs I am absolutely petrified. I thought it was only possible for me to have girls and I think I am in shock. I have so many questions (mostly stupid) about boys and a lot pf preconceived ideas (possibly also mostly stupid) about boys and their behaviour. Worrying me mostly today is: when changing a boy where does the nappy cream go - does it go on the little willy and balls or not?

AND

do boys really love their mums more than girls (hope so as all my DDs are hopelessly daddy's girls)

AND

do all DSs run around the playground hitting their friends and not reading books and doing their homework and generally being immature?

OMG I need help ladies. Mums of DSs, please tell me how lovely they are and that I will be okay (and where to put the bloody cream !)

Don't forget to clean poo fron under the willy There's always a bit left right at the join!

crimbocrazydazy · 06/12/2005 17:09

Yeah I know what you mean Kbear about the scrumptiousness, I am always kissing my little boy and he is just the same whereas with DD I treat her more like my little friend, we gossip etc....

DS jumped on the sofa with his beanbag the other night and sat on it so he was the same size as me and then put his arm around me and watched the TV - boys are definitely cuter.

crimbocrazydazy · 06/12/2005 17:10

Lol Doesntchristmasdragon!! I remember that, thank god those days are behind me!

LUCYlastiKATEdchristmastocking · 06/12/2005 17:20

i felt a bit like you when we found out we were having a boy, and we only had one dd, but he's now 27 weeks and he's lovely. much more laid back than dd ever was as a baby.

nappy cream, slap it everywhere, and boys are easier to clean than girls

also, make sure his todger is pointing down when you put the nappy on, i didn't know to do this and his wee was going all over his cord stump and it got infected, yuk.

congratulations, i'm sure he will be a lovely little addition to your family

Loads of great advice here - but I have to confesss I read your username as

HolyCowOfBethlehem

thecattleareALOHing · 06/12/2005 17:38

Boys are all different. My ds loves books more than anything. Doesn't run or jump or fight, and loves the company of girls. He would be in heaven with all those sisters!

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 06/12/2005 17:39

oh and for the advice -

I've got 2 boys

DS1 (now 5) laid back, quiet, chilled out, daddy's boy

DS2 (just turned 2) - energetic, noisy, mischevious, daddy's boy.

BluStocking · 06/12/2005 17:43

DS does now tear around like a snack-size hooligan, BUT he didn't when he was a baby.
Boys are tiny and delicate and cuddly, just like baby girls. I think it's important the the future boitorousness of boys doesn't get projeted onto them when they are still tiny. Babies are babies.
And even snack-sized hooligans aged 4.5 are sweet and gentle and caring, and ask for (bloody ugly and overpirced) Baby Born for Christmas.

thecattleareALOHing · 06/12/2005 17:45

And yes, absolutely right Blu. Babies are babies. No difference. Tiny, sweet, vulnerable little scraps that need exactly the same love, gentleness and care.

sniff · 06/12/2005 18:16

the cream goes everywhere and I think they are easier to change then girls (I only have sons)

they are very huggy and kissy but are into everything and they are into fighting sorry

I agree about the clothes though and you always buy the same things for christmas and birthdays cars stuff that makes a mess of things that make a noise

I am pregnant with my third to be honest I am hoping for a girl but reading all these post I know I would be pleased with another little man too!!!

best of luck with your little boy I may be back for some advice on girls!!!

LittleMissRACHEYXmasBigTits · 06/12/2005 19:07

As the mum of 2 (soon to be 3) boys and a girl (and an ex-infant teacher) -

Yes (scrotum - if it's a bit red or sore!)

Yes I think they are more affectionate and do love simply and unconditionally (no competition with mum!)

AND

Yes generally! They are definitely more noisy/boisterous. Although they do like Harry Potter, Horrid Henry, Lemony Snicket and Horrible Science/history etc

PS always remember to point their willy down when you change their nappy! else they can soak the babygro but leave the nappy strangely dry... Still much easier than changing a girl with all those nooks n crannies!

PPS Your girls are going to spoil him rotten - make sure you don't spoil him for his poor future wife!

LittleMissRACHEYXmasBigTits · 06/12/2005 19:08

And after reading today's news - their presents do cost more!!! DS1 - psp, ds2 - roboraptor, dd - bratz doll!

allycotownofbethlehem · 07/12/2005 12:02

wow - boys not so bad then!!

I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm not pleased to be having a boy, or that I'm disappointed it's a boy, it's just the shock of the new I think. My eldest DD is 20 next year so for nearly a whole generation all I have known is girls and it feels like a first baby.

I no longer know anyone with a new baby as everyone my age has DDs and DSs in their teens (blimey I am getting old).

I STILL can't take it in I think. Someone suggested buy loads of blue clothes and give him a name. Will this help, do you think?

Oh, and it seems to be 50-50 about putting cream on the willy, although pointing the willy downwards seems to be the way to go...

Further advice and assistance gratefully received!!!!

OMG your poor baby ds having 4 older sisters!! I have 2 DS's and it's fab, you'll be fine when he arrives

DH always says 'at least with boys you only have 1 willy to worry about' !!

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 07/12/2005 13:27

LOL.
Ohhh, allyco your first post made me laugh.

How utterly fantastic to have a boy after 4 grils(Or a girl after 4 boys if that applies to anyone else), his big sisters are going to LOVE him, they'll all be fighting over him and showing him off, he'll be waited on hand and foot from the second he's born.

How fantastic

I've got 3 boys and the thought of cahnging a girls poo-ey nappy makes my stomach churn. Ewww all those creases and crevices for the poo to go. With my boys a poo-ey nappy can be changed in a flash, just a quick once over to get the majority off, then a second go to clean up the last "left overs". Done and he's off.
Is it like that with a girl? I imagine it taking ages.

BTW, even when Ds3 was born I still forgot about the "make sure his willy is pointing down" thing.

melrose · 07/12/2005 13:36

When he's born and you have YOUR little boy in your arms you'll wonder what you were worrying about.

True about the clothes, but I like pink too much!! Oh and definitely watch out for the "Fountain effect" when chaging nappies

I never used nappy cream

Enideepmidwinter · 07/12/2005 13:39

hmm

sorry but this thread is full of stereotypes

boys are more affectionate than girls what a crock

boys are more mad and boisterous - yeah right, you just aren't looking for it in girls

girls spend ages colouring in, well, more than half the kids on our art workshops are boys and they make some lovely stuff.

I need to PARP myself

munz · 07/12/2005 13:55

girls, i'm worrying u've all mentioned the fountain effect! does that mean every nappy change as soon as the air gets to him winkle he's gonna have a fountin flood! lol

(and what about erections? how do u deal with those?)

i'm having a boy as well ally.

Enideepmidwinter · 07/12/2005 13:56

oh come on

you all know once the midwife has shown you you will be fine

MistleToo · 07/12/2005 13:59

why scared? it's a baby just the same, with the same needs as any other baby - enjoy it

MistleToo · 07/12/2005 14:02

how do you deal with erections? you're kidding right? ignore them - you'll get used to it

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 07/12/2005 14:03

munz, through nearly 7 years of nappy changing I'v only been wee'd on 4, maybe 5 times.

So, no the fountain of wee doesn't always happen

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 07/12/2005 14:04

erections?
Just do the nappy up over it

munz · 07/12/2005 14:04

lol - thanks girls!

don't know these things first timer!

Glitterygook · 07/12/2005 14:05

Ds3 has NEVER done the fountain thing. What a good boy!
