Pain high in bump at 38 weeks?

Hi,
Have had an ongoing pain high up in my bump all day. It's started to spread round to by back but not sure if that's because the front pain has made me sit funny? I just wondered whether this could be the start of something as I always expected the contractions to start with a pain low down rather than high up on the bump...any thoughts?

Annie - whereabouts high up? Is it right at the top of your bump? I think it would be a good idea to give your midwife a call - how do you feel this morning?

Not spoken to the MW and managed some decent sleep though I did have to take some paracetamol.
It's a little tender this morning but has gone back to that general period pain feeling and feeling really nauseous. I'm going to rest up and make sure I count my kicks.

I keep going from having that feeling that my insides are falling out to feeling more normal-is it usual for the baby to engage and disengage in this way in the days / weeks leading up to labour? (if thats what is happening?)

Hi Annie - have a chat with your mw if you get pain any at the top of your bump. The last thing I want to do is to make you anxious, but that kind of pain can be a sign of pre-eclampsia which can be very serious for both you & baby. The mw would want to check your BP & urine for protein. NHS symptoms link here - have a read and see what you think?

Yes it did occur to me as I had a headache too. I was so exhausted last night that I decided I would take some paracetamol and monitor and swelling etc. My headache was gone this morning and the bump pain has subsided - I have midwife appt tomorrow anyway so provided nothing changes between now and then I will assume its not pre-e. Its not something that would come and go if I had it is it? Plus I've had really low blood pressure my whole pregnancy.

My bump pain is more of a tightening, like braxton hicks but more long lasting and constant which made me wonder if it could be very early contractions?

Was just going to post about pre-eclampsia, but JetLi has got there already. I think the PE pain is generally more under rib, and on one side, it certainly was for me. BP can fluctuate quite a bit, even with PE. Also you can get the puffy hands, feet and face symptom.

I expect you're experiencing the weirdness that is the end of pregnancy!
