Migraines in 2nd trimester - I can't take it anymore!

I know it's normal, I know there's not much I can do about it, but I have seriously had enough.
I get migraines normally, but lately, I have one big constant migraine. it never goes away, with enough painkillers, it becomes a dull pain, before coming back with a vengeance again.

Doctor has said I can take cocodamol in moderation (am 16 weeks) - this doesn't help either. Blood pressure is fine.

I have read all the threads on this, I have tried everything. Been suffering from migraines from years, so know all the natural rememdies. Nothing is helping! I've had to take days off work this week, but even then I'm stuck at home, or in bed, trying to sleep it off but it never goes away.

I don't know what/if any advice I am expecting, maybe I just needed to rant about it in the hope that someone comes along and tells me they understand how I'm feeling!!

Do you suffer from migraine with aura? This is not helpful for you to hear but I have found an increased number of these during the third trimester. It is very frustrating not being able to take ibuprofen as that is typically all that works for me. I feel your pain, I really do...

thanks sunshine, I suppose in a way it's good to know it's not just me. Sorry you are suffering too!

I do get aura normally, like some bright neon lights flashing in my vision periphery... but as I never seem to be pain free these days, there are no signs, because it never really goes away. I just get numb to it until it becomes unbearable again!

praying that as the weeks pass, they will lessen...

Hi mia, sorry to hear you are struggling.

I know you've said you've tried everything but have you had any magnesium? I don't get migranes very regularly but when I do they are quite horrid. Doctor had prescribed me magnesium for just that purpose and I was surprised of how well they worked. They didn't get rid of the headache entirely but normally the only thing that helps are the really crazily strong painkillers which of course I'm not allowed at the moment. They did even help with the aura which is normally one of the worst things, I find, and I could at least get on with my day. I now take one whenever I feel a headache come on and haven't had any bad migraines since.

Hope you feel better and that it doesn't go on for much longer.

Wasps - that is an excellent tip. I am going to look into magnesium....had no idea that natural remedies could make a dent in the aura.

Mia - I bet the weather is not helping but I hope you get some respite soon.

You can take ibuprofen. I suffer migranes too so did a ton of research and it turns out that in the 2nd trimester its ok, its 1st and 3rd trimester you must avoid it.

No real advice but tonnes of sympathy!

I saw a migraine specialist at around 14 weeks (appointment booked waaaay before getting pregnant, as he's so busy I couldn't see him earlier).

He didn't want to give me any medication as I was pregnant, but did say that usually migraines go away in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters (and come back again straight after birth - yay).

I didn't believe him as I was still having migraines in the 2nd trimester...until I hit 20 weeks and they've gone away (touch wood - I'm currently 31+5).

BUT he also said there are a couple of medications you can take when pregnant - it's not advisable but they haven't done any real studies to prove whether or not they harm the baby (as it's difficult to find willing test subjects!). He said to go back if my migraines didn't improve but I held out and lo and behold they went.

Hope yours do too!!!!

Mine went away after around 23 weeks but have had two (with especially bad aura) between 31-33 weeks...
