I prob already know the answer to this, sadly! I'm 21 weeks and currently in Majorca and wondered if I can eat alioli? Does the risk lay we me getting food poisoning/salmonella through the raw eggs or is the risk to baby greater?

Just thought I'd ask as it's my favourite at my local restaurant.

Thanks

depends if they make it fresh (ie with raw eggs)... I was on hols in spain earlier this year & had gobbled loads of the stuff with a fish dinner. Then our spanish friends proudly announced that the restuarants' aioli is amazing because its all made fresh on site....cue me choking at the thought of the amount of raw egg i'd just consumed. Oooops! I believe the risk is indeed salmonella from raw eggs.... very nasty if you get it, but from what I've read (i just checked online) it wont directly harm your baby if you were unfortunate enough to get salmonella from eating it. Enjoy your hols - am jealous!!

I would avoid it as I'm not sure if the standards abroad are the same as here. Even if it's not fresh mayonnaise, it may still contain raw egg.

i would probably just eat it. but then i've been licking cake spoons, having poached eggs every weekend, soft cheese, sushi and all sorts. i think these risks are really overblown.

i agree with goodnightmoon. its all a little OTT and the actual statistical likelihood of getting salmonella is so remote. iv totally given up on pregnancy ridiculousness and now enjoying a full range of soft and blue cheeses, large glasses of wine, the steam room at the gym, and everything is just fine (but in honesty: would prefer more wine to be honest). 5 weeks to go and feeling them.....
