Inductions

An induction isn't necessarily on the cards yet, I do have a consultancy later today to see what the next step is and what our options are.
Have been told by a few friends that inductions are horrible and to try and bring on labour best I can (castor oil being mentioned amongst other things)..easier said than done!

Anyway at 40+5 would like to hear from those of you who have been induced, those of you who have had a successful sweep and how far over were you gone from EDD when baby made it's appearance.
And yes, I have lots of time on my hands this morning

ChaCha - Sweeps only really work IMO if you are teetering on the edge already. I was 2-3 cm dilated at 39 weeks, but not contracting at all. Midwife offered me a sweep which I agreed to. Dd was born 48hrs later.

hi
I was induced with ds at 14+4 and he came day after. Induction for me was fine really quick labour once it started and generally a positive experience. Cant have been too horrendous as I am being induced in 2 wks with no.2.

ChaCha - please don't do the caster oil thing!!!! have heard some awful stories from a midwife friend of mine. It may work but the after effects can be horrific as it's just too quick for your body to cope with - as well as being extremely painful (think hemmorraging and really bad tears!!)

I was induced with ds at 39 weeks and labour progressed quite quickly, and had a sweep with DD at 40+6 and went into labour the next morning. I didn't find either experience too bad

ChaCha - there's a natural induction thread on the Health bit of the site (don't know how to link it to here - sorry) that has some good info.

ChaCha · 01/12/2005 11:44

Thanks for that, will do a search now.

I was induced and tried EVERY natural way going, and had 2 sweeps. DD turned up several days later, got to the final stage of induction. But seriously, the main thing is getting your lovely little baby in your arms. Those days flew in and were such a small price to pay for such a lovely prize.

Best piece of advice I had from my sister was - every contraction is one less until you meet your baby. Don't dwell for a second on how many more - they all have to happen anyway

Good luck
