Urine/Kidney infections and a homebirth

I am currently nearly 36 weeks and for the past week I have had a pain rather like a stitch in my right side (kind of just where the top of your knickers are). After feeling increasingly worse and after having one night of horrible sickness and diarrhoea (which my husband had also!) I went to see MW who tested very dark urine sample and has sent it away for further testing. Blood pressure was fine as was the baby's heartbeat but she said that there was a lot of protein in it. Does anyone know what this means? MW said a urine or kidney infection. I have looked up in books for information and it just points to pre-eclampsia, but I don't think it's this as BP was fine.
I have one more week until I can 'by NHS standards' have my baby at home in my birthing pool. I really want to hang in there and have not had any other ill health during my pregnancy. Does anyone know if this may scupper my chances or have any advice on how to get rid of it. Thanks

ususally they prescribe you a course of anti-biotics, i'd go and see your GP asap before it gets worse.
