5 wk scan and 8 wk scan

Hi ladies, I'm now 6 wks pregnant. Last week I was having quite bad pains in the evening (although no bleeding) and went to my early pregnancy unit the next morning. They gave me a scan and I saw my little baked bean (..and dripped jelly all the way home) but of course it was too early to see beans heartbeat, so they've rebooked me for a few weeks when I will be 8 wks. I'm really glad they've done this as I think the 12 week wait would have killed me - I'm a nervous wreck! What I was wondering if anybody knew is if you've had a scan at 5 weeks and 8 weeks and everything is fine - is it less likely that you will get to 12 weeks and see no baby? I think I've become slightly obsessed with the idea as my dad has drummed it into me everytime I bring up baby (2 of his nieces had it happen to them last year).

Thanks in advance

S

Sadly nothing in pregnancy is guaranteed however I've been told my both a doctor and a MW that once they've seen a heartbeat the chances of the pregnancy continuing to a good outcome rise to around 90-95%

i had a 5 and 8 week scan too hun, exactly the same reasons as you (im not sure if it will be the same, but they were that bad i was nearly passing out from pain etc, and the internal scan showed a cyst that protects the devloping egg, it is very common,a dnt he pain was it detatching away)

Anyhoooow at the 8 week scan we saw the heartbeat :) it was amazing, and i cant remember the exact figures, but yes the chances of mc drop each week

I now have my 20 week scan tomorrow :) eeeeek

I had the same, no hb at 5+ weeks, went back 10 days later & it was there!....

I had 7 weeks scan and there was a heartbeat so you should definitetely see one at 8 weeks if things are ok. Good luck I know the wait is terrible. I am now 14 weeks but I had no pains just some dark bleeding at the early stage.

Professor of obstetrics Lesley Regan says in her book 'your pregnancy week by week' that at six weeks the risk of miscarriage has fallen to approx 15% and by 8weeks if a foetal heartbeat is seen on the scan the risk of miscarriage has fallen to 3%.

I had my 8week scan this morning and saw a flickery heartbeat so feeling very happy about those odds!
