Red prams for boys?

Was having this conversation with some of the girls the other day... Right or wrong?? I personally think it's fine (sure Arsenal football fan hubby would agree!).

I had a black with red interior for my son, never crossed my mind that red is a gender specific colour, he wear red clothes too [eek] seriously though I personally don't see it as a problem, if it was pink all over it might look a bit odd, but I wouldn't buy a pink pram for a girl anyway just as I always wanted more than 1 child and this could cost a fortune!

I had a red pram with ds1 (bebe confort loola and creatis car seat). DH's choice.

With ds2 (5days old) we have another loola but this time in black as DH has decided red is too girly. Despite choosing last time Hmm He still has a red creatis though as I ran out of time/inclination to do anything about that!

So make of that what you will Grin

Personally I think a proper red (ie a good pillar box red) is fine. If it was veering into cherry territory I might be a bit more reluctant though.

Absolutely fine, my sons pram is orange and my new baby's pram is purple but we have no idea of sex yet. Only colours reserved for boy/girl are pink and blue but even then I don't think it really matters!

And I agree. If you are planning more than one child, a very unisex pram is absolutely essential. Unless you're VB and have one sent free from iCandy!

I think any colour of pram is fine, personally - but in any case red surely doesn't have gender connotations. After all, nobody would bat an eyelid at a man driving a red car, would they?
(Having said that, I had a blue pram for DD and people were always asking if she was a boy - one bonkers woman even asked accusingly "why have you got her in a blue pram then!" Confused

Really??? Does it matter? All three of mine have whatever - grey or blue (ds, dd and one to be decided). Colour was never a factor!

OMG no.

You absolutely cannot do that to a boy. It will make his willy shrivel up and drop off. Boys can ONLY have blue, black, or sludge coloured clothes and accessories.

I think people really overthink this. The only colour pram I would not use for a boy is pink. But then I wouldn't buy a pink one for a girl either as I think they look hideous.

It really doesn't matter at all.

I had a red quinny buzz for DS, which will be re-used for DS2 who is due in November. I wish there were more red things for little boys to wear, I'm bored of blue and just can't bring myself to buy beige -yuck.

When pregnant with my first we bought a red pram for the precise reason that it is non gender specific.

H&M does great brightly coloured boys' clothes knitter - my ds (aged 5) has some brilliant red trousers and shorts.

The world has officially gone mad if red is now counted as a female only colour. I hate the way that girls get pink rammed down their throats and boys get gray/blue. Its all just a major marketing ploy and nothing more - pleae don't let the stupid gender rules spread to other colours as well!

I've never even considered red as anything other than unisex. Rant over - sorry!

Thanks phlossie, I'll have a look. I get tops for him from there and found one pair of trousers that I liked (blue ones though!). I'll go into town on my own one day so I can have a proper look. Smile

We had a red pram for DD and now have a red double for DD and DS and a red car seat for DS.
He's fine about it.

Good point Phlossie, we love H&M bodysuits & plain tops - lovely being able to get brown, green, blue, and black ones for our two DDs! They do seem to be a bit more open on the girl/boy colour stereotypes than other retailers.

I know several mums with red prams for boys - never thought anything of it. Our DDs have a lovely lime green one.

I must admit when I visit SiL I do insist we do a little H&M visit. It's too funky not to!

I bought a red pram 1st time around and wished I hadn't because I always used to think red was such a loud, aggressive colour for a sweet, sleeping baby. Absolutely nothing to do with gender, but I would get a calm, peaceful colour next time.

I also bought a red quinny buzz because it wasn't gender specific DS never looked Girly in it.

I've got a red and black b smart by britax for my little boy

My 16 and 8 year olds have both got pink teshirts, apparently it's the "in" colour!
