Old pram, new matress?

hello all,

i have just spent the morning cleaning up my mums beautiful old silver cross pram which she used with my younger sister(late 80's). we are hoping to use it instead of a moses basket as a way of saving some money and it really is lovely with a nice rocking motion and a good size sturdy basket.

my concern is this: do i need a new matress and where on earth will i find one the right size that doesnt cost the earth? my mum insists we all had the same cot matress and were fine but i dont think i want to take the risk. the matress is foam so im not even sure if it is suitable for sleeping all night as this is my first pregnancy.Confused

help!

thanks in advance for any advice

Definitely a new mattress! I'm very jealous of your lovely pram though, would love one like that but can't persuade dh.

Have a look here, they custom make mattresses. I came across them when looking for a mattress for my bassinette as it's a bit bigger than a moses basket.

I second Harrassed's link, I used the same company to get a new mattress for my pram and was very happy with it.

Search Silver Cross mattress on ebay and you will find a new one that will fit at a good price

babymattressesonline.co.uk/ (type silver cross into the search)

I bought one from here to fit a second hand bugaboo. It came in about a week and they are not expensive at all.

Definately a new mattress if using it as a Moses basket

I found one which fitted my mum's old pram in Mothercare - might be worth a shot.

We did exactly the same as you with our first born...my mum was given an old silver cross pram and went online to buy a made to measure mattress for it. it wasn't expensive, fitted beautifully & all our babies have loved sleeping in it. as per above, there are loads of online mattress companies, I'm using the babymattressesonline.co.uk to buy new mattresses for moses, pram & cot for my 3rd due later this yr.
