moses baskets vs cribs/cradles - what do you think?

Can't decide what to buy for DC2 - we had a borrowed, hideous moses basket for DC1 which she hated, and slept mainly in her pram. I like the idea of a crib/cradle but they do seem really exposed, so am just not sure what to do. Second bed will be a cotbed with a divider - worked very well for DC1. Help?!

I had a swinging cradle with DD and she HATED it. It was one that you put the bit of wood in a hole to stop it moving, but it still moved a bit and she ended up sleeping mainly in her pram til we got a cotbed. Im going to try a moses basket this time as friends have used them and loved it. Im sure theres loads of people who have had good experience with cradles too though. :)

i really liked the idea of a traditional crib rather than a moses basket for those first months. then someone pointed out to me that with a moses basket you can at least move it around the house when he/she is sleeping during the day and be able to keep an eye on. i know people that have used a travel cot which is the same thing i guess, but personally i am put off by the idea of having something close to the ground and causing even more strain to my back!

i have a moses basket as didnt want the baby to get used to rocking and have to rock it to sleep everytime.

i had a rocking crib first time round too and my baby didnt like it either, no idea why tho

We used a moses for DC1 because she was so small, and we could pop her anywhere in the house in it.

With DC2 I had a bedside crib, I loved it, cannot wait to use it again with DC3 (he better like it!).

Second time around the moses basket did come out but was redundant fairly quickly, DS was huge and looked a bit squashed in no time. Also, with a toddler running around the moses felt a bit precarious when it was down stairs, I didn?t really want to turn my back in case DD got a bit friendly and tipped him out.

At least in the bouncer chair he was low to the ground and strapped in?she could go and give him kisses without the risk of him toppling anywhere!

Thanks - some really good suggestions, and I have decided to buy a new moses basket. At least I can pop it in the cot bed when the time comes to move rooms..

We've just bought a second hand hammock and it looks so cosy! I can imagine it cucooning a new born more effectively than a flat moses basket or crib. There are probably a million reasons not to use them though...
