... Found in urine sample. But I didn't get antibiotics. Does anyone know any more? I thought it meant a uti?

Leucocytes are in their simplest form White blood cells.
Pregnancy can cause the quick shed of White blood cells in the kidneys because of all the extra work they have to do. It doesn't always mean infection.
If u have any clinical signs (burning stinging frequency fever) then they should go on the side of caution and give antibiotics. If not, a sample should be sent for culture to see if the cause is a bacterial infection or a sterile pyuria.

It is highly suggestive of uti. Did you have protein as well (think this is always present with uti too?) or blood (sometimes present)

Thanks for replies. I thought they'd err on the side of caution and give ab's but they are sending them off and I've to phone in a couple days time.
I'm 36+2 at the moment.
There was no protein or blood in the sample

I had sterile pyuria from about 28 wks on. Never needed antibiotics and never cultured any bacteria from any samples

Leucocytes alone tend to be indicative of a contaminated sample.

If you had a UTI you'd usually have other stuff in your wee too, or possiby be symptomatic.

Best that they send it for MC&S before they give you abx.

just wondering whether this turned out to be a uti? i had leukocytes in a sample on friday and it's been sent for culture, i am feeling really under the weather today and wondering if it is connected and i need to go and do something about it. bank holiday here tomorrow so not just a case of going to gp. i'm 22 weeks.

Realise this is an old thread but same thing has happened to me and wondered if anyone can help....have sore left lower back and went to docs as a precaution for uti (had in the past) as I am only 5 wks preg so wanted to be extra cautious. They found only leukocytes in urine and have given me amoxocillin and sending wee off to be tested. I feel that leukocytes alone are not indicative of infection so wondering if I should wait for results on Tues before taking antibiotics...but other half of me is saying take them now in case it is something sinister and causes harm! Help!
