What does NEC mean?

I just had my 16 week midwife appt and she listened to the heartbeat. When she wrote it down on the computer notes she put "NEC". What does that mean? She hasn't put it in my handheld notes.

NEC usually stands for 'Necrotizing enterocolitis' which is an inflammation of the intestines but I have never heard of this regarding heartbeat and it's not something that can be discovered through just listening to baby's heartbeat. Are you sure it was NEC?

It could also mean: Normal foetal echocardiogram, which would make much more sense! Smile

That should say echocardiogram!

Phew! Thank you! I did google and came up with that intestines thing but thought that couldn't be it as the midwife would have said something! Just never seen NEC on notes before. Thanks again!
