love it

Lonelymum · 26/11/2005 22:11

Lovely, but agree, spell it Madeleine.

expatinscotland · 26/11/2005 22:15

Don't like 'Maddie'. Too popular.

JingEllBells · 26/11/2005 22:16

I have a Madeleine. She's 5 and a half and can spell it! Needless to say, I think it's a lovely name (and I love the name Rose too - unfortunately for me it has connotations of a past relationship that went seriously pear-shaped, but otherwise I think it's lovely!).

Easy to teach her to spell it... You teach it rhythmically...

Worked for me, anyway. Just working on the surname now, which has 11 letters and is not at all phonetic!

JingEllBells · 26/11/2005 22:17

My Madeleine does get it shortened to Maddie, but I also call her Madge! It's not that popular (I only know of one other Maddie in her school).

AnnaK · 28/11/2005 08:19

Lovely name now but will it suit a stroppy punky teenager? Of course by then she will have decided on the abreviation (or not) that she likes and will suit it to her personality. I like it!

mancmum · 28/11/2005 08:22

It is very very pretty -- just hope you don't get a tom boy!!

Hulababy · 28/11/2005 08:28

I like it and I also like Maddy. I only know of one Maddy (DD's nursery) too, although no idea what her full name is.

Regards popularity, from the Top 100 names for baby girls in England and Wales 2005:

MADELEINE is number 68

And other names shortened to maddy maybe:
MADISON is number 43
MADDISON is number 75

bornamadeline · 28/11/2005 08:54

Speaking from personal experience, Maddy suited me as a tomboy and a goth teenager, and seems to work fine now too! I think kids grow into their names and Madelaine Rose is a lovely one.

WigWamBam · 28/11/2005 08:57

I like it, but it brings back memories of a Madelaine (she spelled it that way) I went to school with who was regularly called Mad Elaine (and other variations on a mad theme) for as long as I knew her.

Rose is beautiful ... although I'm biased, it's dd's middle name.

harpsichordcarrier · 28/11/2005 08:58

lovely names
I would have liked them both but dh vetoed

noddyholder · 28/11/2005 09:01

Both names are lovely seperately but together sounds a bit like a scary film

NomDePlume · 28/11/2005 09:04

It's pretty, but there are lots of Maddie's in my hometown.

My Mum is called Rose, we considered it as a middle name for DD but went with DH's Mum's name instead
