Fell down the stairs

OK, just left work and fell down the stairs. Managed to go completely arse over tit and hit my head on the steps. Not sure how. Happened in slow motion and managed to grab the hand rail before I fell any further so only did 1 revolution. Was not too bothered, but just spoke to DH who's working in Poland and he's now really worried. Can feel bump kicking still, but should I be worried? Should I go and get checked out or call someone or something??? Any advice please??

Have a check up with your GP, just to make sure. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Hope you're ok. These things can be terribly scary.

KnitterNotTwitter · 12/07/2011 17:12

What Rhubarb said... also it'll get it logged on your notes just in case you need the info later

FX all is ok

SheCutOffTheirTails · 12/07/2011 17:15

Is your GP still open? If so, I think it would be a good idea to get checked just for peace of mind (your DH's, if not yours :) )

Glad you are feeling OK. I always feel delicate when pg, things like this can be very upsetting even if no harm done.

Bloody hell what a terrible shock for you Shock

Yes get checked out just to make sure. Baby might have had a shock too!

StainlessSteelCat · 12/07/2011 17:19

Go get checked. Especially as you bumped your head.

And poor you. I've done similar when not pregnant and it really shook me up, though I didn't realise until much later. Work colleagues made me go to A&E and although everything was fine, I was very glad for the reassurance.

Thanks everyone, just rang the emergency number my midwife gave me. I really didn't think it was a big deal, but then I'm not great on seeing the risks in things! They asked me a few questions and said everything sounds ok and just to keep my eye out on the baby's movements. Starting to realise that maybe I need to be a bit more careful about things. Nice to find out that they were really helpful and concerned at the midwife unit though and they tried to put my mind at rest saying how wrapped up baby is in there and not to worry too much because I didn't bang my belly!

That's good to hear SamMarie :)

Many's the woman (myself included) would have been reduced to a gibbering wreck by a fall like that, even if everything seemed fine afterwards.

Well done for staying so calm, and take care of yourself :)

  1. If you haven't gone to A&E yet - go. The whack on the head alone is reason to go. Don't care what the midwife says, she's not a specialist in head traumas/concussions. My husband has to investigate stair accidents and fatalities - seriously, it's not worth risking it at all. Seriously, go...in all likelyhood you're fine, but it's NOT worth the risk.
  2. Did this happen at work? If so, make sure they know, this is a reportable accident and should be dealt with VERY seriously.
Oeisha · 12/07/2011 21:19

Oh, just incase you're thinking I'm overreacting, then please, please definatly go if:

  1. you're alone. I noted your man's away. Is there another responsible adult that can monitor you?
  2. if you're dizzy, even if you just stand up and think 'ooh'...
  3. if you're sick - even if, like me you're getting morning sickness in the evening
  4. if you have a headache or neck ache at all But, seriously, please, please go...you're not wasting their time, they'd rather you went now with no issues then later, unconscious...and potentially no clue as to why you're like that.
Oeisha · 12/07/2011 21:25

bump...hoping you read soon

SamMarie · 12/07/2011 21:36

Hi Oeisha,
Thanks for being so concerned. I feel fine though, no headaches, dizzyness or sickness and I didn't hit it very hard. Never thought to report it at work, just carried on out the building because I was on my way home. Will definately report it in the morning though! They're already nannying me there so don't know what they'll be like now!! Baby seems to be moving around fine too.
Thanks everyone. x
