Low Placenta - anyone?

I was told at my 20wk scan i have a low placenta. I am already booked in for another scan at 32 weeks to check it's moved.
If it hasn't moved, what will happen next? Will i get further scans weekly until they decide it's not going to move and book me in for CS?
Has anyone had low placenta and it hasn't moved? Also, how many of you had it and it did move so then went on to normal deliveries (if there is such thing!)

I had a low placenta with both of my pregnancies at 20wks, and by the 32w scan it had moved up both times. A friend of mine recently had a complete previa and was given a c-section at 38w.
Its very common at 20w so hopefully yours will move.

Hi, I'm in that club too- if it hasn't moved by the next scan they've given me at 34weeks it won't basically.
So it'll be a cs, no more scans.
I saw a description online somewhere that imagine your uterus as a balloon, the placenta as a 'x' down by the bottom blocking the 'exit' where you let air in and out (like the cervix) as the balloon blows up that normally moves further up the balloon - that's why apparently 90% of them shift outta the way.

Mine is partially over the cervix and have stayed in hospital twice due to bleeding. Just 23 weeks now.

They may give me growth scans to check on baby as I've been bleeding but apart from that they said 36week scan to see if it has moved and a CS section if it hasn't.

Hope you're doing ok - have an 11 wk old baby born by section due to placenta previa. Like others say, most do move so fingers crossed. Honestly the majority do. Unfortuantely mine didn't and bled at 34 weeks and so was hospitalised from then till section at just over 38 weeks. The most important thing is to listen to what they say, eg no lifting, sex! I have a 5 year old too and so being in hosp was awful but I finally realised the safest once they realised hadn't moved at 32 weeks. It is quite rare for it not to move though, however if you do start bleeding you must get straight into hosp. I was told via ambulance. That's what I had to do at the 34 week mark. All ok now and have lovely little baby boy - a relief.

I was told that mine was very low at 20 weeks but by 32 weeks it was fine.

Had low laying placenta at 20 week scan, re scanned at 32 weeks and had moved enough for them to take no further action. She said mine was 3cm away from 'exit', apparently anything over 2cm is good. Think as most people have said, most do move in time for delivery

Mine was low too - never had a bleed, had a scan at 36 weeks and it hadn't moved. Had another at 38 weeks - still no movement. So I had a c section at 39 weeks. If you do end up in the same boat, please don't worry. A planned section is really calm IME, and while recovery is obviously slower than a VB, there are advantages too - you can prepare for a definite due date and the whole thing only takes an hour. 5 mins to whip LO out and the rest of the time to stitch you up while you cuddle your new baby. Mine was found to be low at the 20 week scan
Have a scan at 34 weeks to see if it has moved. Got told it sorts itself out in 90% of cases.

I'm in the same boat. Told on my 21 week scan it is covering baby's exit, and have another scan booked for 34 weeks, but not given any advice for in between!

Was in the same boat... told low lying at 20wks, no additonal advice given. Had scan at 33wks & it had moved up & is now fine. I was convinced it was still low as baby is lying transverse / oblique & refuses to move head down. Midwife wondered whether it couldnt go head down due to still low placenta. But placenta fine... baby just being a pickle with regards to position. It is my 3rd tho' so no muscle to hold anything in whatsoever!

I had low lying at 20w - the hospital didn't tell me anything about what to do/not do.

I called the midwife the next day and asked if there was anything I should avoid doing and was told just to carry on as normal.

I can't believe we're told different things for the same problem - surely there should be generic guidelines across the board?

Got my scan in 4 weeks to see what's happened..... gonna be a nervous day.

I was it was common at 20 weeks and that 9 times out of 10 it moves (it doesn't actually move, it's like if you draw an X on a balloon and then blow up the balloon - the balloon inflates and the X moves, without physically moving - same happens as your womg grows).

Yep, mine's low too (am 24 weeks). Scan said low down to the cervix, but not over it... So waiting til that 32 week scan to find out if it's shifted. No advice to rest given but am damn well going to be careful anyway til I know it's moved!
