'Bump' measurements???

My midwife keeps saying how I am measuring over for my dates......im 29wks measuring 35cm.

According to first scan I was 11+2......DH and I had been trying for a while so clued up on dates and I made me 13+5 (ish). At second scan I was told baby seems to be big.

My other 2DC's were not big (6lb 6 and 7lb).

Could my dates be wrong?

Its possible. Maybe you should start getting prepared a little bit earlier just in case! :)

I don't know what size you were before being pregnant but I am measuring 2/3 weeks over fairly consistently and my midwife has said that's it's just because I have 'a bit of a fat on my belly'. Which is true. Also he maintain that the measurements are pretty crap anyway as they are pretty subjective to the person measuring-they can vary so much so easily, there are times when mine will do 2/3 until she's happy. even though im 'measuring big' everyone has said that I don't look anywhere near ready to pop (due in 4 days) so I'm not bothered at all. I wouldn't read too much into it, if there was any reason to be concerned I'm sure your midwife will take appropriate measures (growth scans etc).

I think I'd be more inclined to believe the scan measurements. I'm 29 weeks and my midwife measured my bump as only 23 last Friday - and then 27 five minutes later when the baby had moved a bit!

I was a size 16 before and have lost weight due to constant vomiting throughout the pregnancy....now a 12/14 in maternity wear.

I agree that the measurements are very subjective. MW has given me until 30wk app (wed) and if still over by 5cm+ then will send for a growth scan.

I think the tape measure method is totally inaccurate to be honest. I've been measuring exactly right with it, then they've done a growth scan last week because of a problem, and they think baby is small. However, consultant has said even with scan, it's not definate. The only way to know the weight is to actually weigh the baby!

It does recommend in the notes that the tape measurements are done every 2 weeks by the same person. Well, I had only 3 measurements up until 33 weeks, all by different people and it seems it wasn't accurate at all according to scan & consultant.

Take it with a pinch of salt. As long as baby is growing and there are no problems picked up elsewhere, then I wouldn't worry.

The tape measure test is a load of rubbish. It had DD as weighing over 8lbs at 38 weeks. She was born 3 weeks later weighing just over 7lb. Pah!

However, if you are VERY sure of your dates, it might be worth making a fuss later as you don't want to go too much over your EDD. ie; if you go 2 weeks over MW date, that's 42 weeks but if you're really 2 weeks ahead then that's 44 weeks IYKWIM. Might be worth making sure your MW does send you for the growth scan.

The measuring thing is very subjective.

With DS1 I was told at 37 weeks I was measuring slightly small for dates. He came at 39 weeks weighing 7lb 13oz.

Just had DD 2 weeks ago and was told from 35 weeks that I was measuring 5cm too big. She was born at 38+5 weighing 8lb 1oz. Fairly well sized but not massive by any means.

Im just getting a bit stressed as they plan to induce me at 37wks to avoid previous complications with pre-eclampsia, im afraid that if they miss the 37wk mark as they think I am only 35wks then im going to end up in the same position as my previous births......blood pressure through the roof, dizzy, protein in urine, quick dramatic labours followed by sever bleeding, transfusions and months of meds.

Who said doing this was easy? (oh, my DH!)

Had the EXACT same issue - my bump is currently measuring anywhere between 45cm and 50cm!! And I'm only 39 weeks! Been sent for two seperate consultancies, a growth scan, and I have another appointment with a consultant this Wednesday. Baby was apparently 7lb 6oz at 36 weeks, so lets just see how big he actually turns out to be!

My consultant told me that the rule is a cm for every week +/- 2cm. So for my 24 wk appointment I was 24 cm which was bang on.

im 24+3 had 24 week check this morning and im measuring 26 as i have a long abdomen is this possible in your case?

I am 30wks now and measured 37 yesterday......but have lost another 2lb's! Midwife has asked to see me again at 31 and will send for a growth scan if this trend continues.

I am honestly all bump and boobs! (quite the look).

super I am more legs than torso and only 5'6". MW seems to think I am either having a very long baby or a small monster!
