Short labours run in the family??

evening all!
At 33 weeks with DC1 I just braved the question to my mum "how long was your labour?"

Her reply was: from the first contraction with
DC1 = 3.5 hours.
DC2 = 2.5 hours
DC3 = 90 mins!

It would take DH 45 mins to get home from work and another 45 mins to the hospital - or I could change to another one 10 mins away...

Is there evidence to suggest that if my mum had short labours, I will too?? Trying to decide whether to switch from Tommys to Kings...

Best to ask your midwife. My mum had short labours, as have I so far, but my sister has endured very long labours (have same mother and father), so I suppose it could run in the family, or you could take after the other side of your family.

not sure if its a proven fact but my mother and I had identical precipitous labours both of us had about 2 hours...

Din't be fooled. All my family had fairly quick labours. Sisters all less than 6 hours even with first, quickest 55 mins born at home.
My mum had me 20 mins after her water broke no contractions prior to this.
Of course I was therefore convinced I would have a quick labour. Hasn't counted on a baby with a large head (37cm) which was turned slightly to the side. For me 36 hours, 19 hrs in established labour! Might just be my bad luck though

The myth says look how your mothers labours went to figire out what yours will be like but from my experience as a mother of 4 and a Birth Doula this does not always follow suit. My mum had her 1st baby (breech) in 8 hours, 2nd baby in 5 hours and me in 20mins from start to finish. And i was... DC1 = 8hrs, DC2 = 7hrs, DC3 = 3hrs, DC4 = 8hrs. So no pattern lol, however it is always worth mentioning to your midwifery team that quick labours run in the family. Good luck!x
